My Christmas Eve miracle - 12/25/15 01:42 PM
So, I've never bowhunted before, nor have I ever shot a buck worth mounting. But I picked up a Hoyt TurboHawk at a pawn shop recently and decided to give it a try.
I only had to work in the morning on Christmas eve, so I got in the tree stand around 1:30pm. I had a small buck that didn't meet AR's come in and feed for a few minutes. A little later a couple of does showed up, but they came in from downwind and busted me.
Then, around 5pm I looked out and saw another doe coming from about 250 yards away...then I saw this buck trailing her! She slowly made her way to the feeder and he stayed 20-30 yards behind her the whole way. He finally gave me a shot at about 25 yards and I put it right through his heart! I waited for the longest hour of my life before tracking him. I found my arrow with good blood, but no blood trail to follow. I was kind of worried so I went to the edge of the trees where I last saw him and there he was! He only ran about 75 yards.
This is definitely a Christmas eve I'll remember for the rest of my life!
