Nice buck. East Texas is 'producing' this year.
As for the rifle placement (though not ideal), you have a situation where the camera angle is creating a bit of an illusion. I took the pic, opened it in 'Paint' and drew a line parallel with the barrel (right down the center of it) and the muzzle is actually pointing at his elbow. Even that is not definite depending upon how far behind the animal he is.
In any case, it is always best to leave the 'action' open on any weapon...when taking pics, that way there is no question the firearm is safe.

Bice deer.. there are some really mature bucks in east tx.. just have to let the young ones walk..hunting east tx is very hard at times.
