We leased a little land, some crops, some grass, and some creek beds. The spot I shot my buck from was a 40 acre creek bottom surrounded by crops and open fields on 3 sides, and just a little pasture land on one side. First morning of hunt I saw a little buck. That afternoon I got back in my pop up blind, took off my back pack, set my rifle down, and laid my tripod shooting sticks down.I opened the front window and peeked out.I then opened my right side window and peeked out.I saw a deer standing on the opposite creek bank about 150 yards across from me. I quickly grabbed my binoculars. I could tell he had white horns, he was heavy, and had quite a bit of stuff going on. That was all I needed to see. I quickly laid down the binoculars and grabbed my rifle and shooting sticks. By the time I got on him, I had tree branches between me and him. I could not get off a clear shot. He was moving around and did not know wich way to go. About that time I noticed movement in front of him. It was a doe. The doe took off down in the thick creek bottom, and he quickly followed her, with out me being able to get a shot off. I glassed the brush, creek banks, and whole area hard for about an hour and a half hoping to catch his movement or to see him bedded down, to no avail. Then as it was getting prime time I caught some movement coming thru the heavy grass and weeds near the creek. I quickly grabbed my binoculars, it was a doe. I set up my shooting sticks, got my rifle ready, and kept glassing her with binoculars. Finaly she glanced down the creek where she came from. I looked where she was looking and found movement. Settled down on my rifle and thru the scope I see another doe. I watched them a while just hoping big boy would come out with them. They finally looked back down the creek bed. I looked thru the binoculars and I caught movement. I could see heavy white antlers with a lot of mass. I just new it had to be him. I quickly put binos down and got rifle on him. I had cross hairs on him, but he was in thick brush and grass and I could not see his vitals, but he was headed for a cleàring. As soon as I had a clear shot I fired. I knew he was hit hard.
He spun around the other way and tried to take off, and I immediately hit him again and he instantly dropped.I kept the cross hairs pointed his direction for a few minutes. He never once moved. All I could see was the tips of his antlers in the brush. I text my Dad that I had a buck down. He asked if it was a big one. I told him I think it is a big one, but I didn't know for sure how big or even how many points he had. My Dad said he would head my way. I waited for my Dad and we walked up on him together. We made sure he was dead and the whooping and hollering began. We could not believe it, we were shocked, amazed, and so great full it was unreal. Not only was his rack very nice, but his body was huge. He was estimated at 275-300 lbs live wieght. It took me and Dad for ever to get him loaded. I shot him twice with a 270 WSM thru each of his shoulders. He was about 75 yards away when I shot him.
