Proud Dad

My oldest Shelby took her first buck Friday afternoon - and started out with a bang. I was right beside her. Deer came out nosing a doe and I told her "We're gonna shoot this deer honey. Don't worry about his rack - just put those crosshairs behind his shoulder and squeeze that trigger." One shot right in the heart and he didn't go 10 yards. 160 yards. A memory neither of us will ever forget. Special thanks to jeffbird for the excellent marksmanship training he gave her last fall. His patience and training gave her all the confidence she needed to make the shot when it counted.

Here's a throwback pic of her little sister Sarah and her buck from a few years ago. I never pressured either girl to hunt. Sarah got the "bug" first and Shelby followed 2 years ago. Shelby took a doe two years ago but was holding out for a good buck this year. I'll throw in a pic of Shelby and her doe too just because I am a proud Daddy.

She was a wonderful student, a wonderful lady, and easy to teach. Guess the 200 yard practice paid off.

She can shoot. This is the last day of practice, two rounds of ammo left in the box. Taped this to a 200 yard target. Conditions were windy, but she hit with both of the last two shots. Her future husband better not argue with her.

Life is Grand. Your a lucky man with 2 beautiful daughters that are great shooters. Great to see family activities and memories. They will never forget the experience.

Thanks again guys for your kindness in letting me share. EK I am indeed blessed - but the Good Lord and their Momma deserve the lion's share of the credit when it comes to these girls. I mostly just get to enjoy being their Daddy. It is the best job I have ever had. Those of you with kids know exactly what I am talking about - as I can tell from all the "kid" threads. They are always my favorite threads.
