Very special deer, tlk. You're blessed to have a lease group that all buy into the same management philosophy. Very hard to put together a group with the funds and long-term desire to make a ranch and it's wildlife the best they can be. You guys and the landowner should be very proud of your success! Did y'all feed cottonseed and pellets? We quit cottonseed last year but I'm thinking I want to start feeding it alongside the pellets again.
Thank you - yes we feed both and have alot of stations. Added the cottonseed about 4 years ago. The best thing about the cottonseed to me is that fawns can get to it whereas they can't to the protein because they cannot get over the pen.
We do not kill bucks until they are 6 or older. Lots of patience. Great landowners who we have been with now 8 years - we manage heavily with does, culls and management bucks. Right or wrong 8 pointers don't last long since we have so many multi point deer with trash, splits, etc. I serve as lease boss but I pay exactly what the other hunters pay - and you are correct about getting the right members. I can find plenty who will pay the cost but finding ones who are patient and not having to pull the trigger every year is difficult. I spend a lot of time up front before we ever sign up a new hunter - we are blessed and enjoy it a great deal of course.
