Great idea. I hate messing with some of the straps.

I assume you're referring to this $10 one.

I made some similar about 5 yrs ago now. I made these in about 5-10 minutes each. I needed them heavier built to handle heavy cameras back then. Have you tested them with a camera for weight on them yet?

Yep. They hold a Moultrie D6 (six D cell batteries) just fine.

But if you're concerned about weight go with a two-inch by 1/4" eye bolt instead of 3/16". It will be a little harder to screw into a tree, and you will need two Fender Washers instead of the regular flat washers because of the bigger eye in the bolt.

Might need to give this a shot.

Not knocking your ingenuity at all! Looks like a great mount. I have one like this(store bought) and it was either a coon or a squirel decided to climb all over it and even attempt to chew on it. Needless to say they won't hold the weight in my experience. Camera ended up pointed to the ground.

I hear `ya blazin.

With that kind of problem I would replace the thumb screw and wing nut that hold the screw eye with a regular hex bolt and hex nut. Then you could use two small wrenches to really crank it down tight.

That might be a better way to go anyway. You'd just have to remember to stick the wrenches in your pocket.

I carry a leatherman on me all the time. Easy fix.

I use a piece of wire and then wedge a rock between the top of the camera and the tree to get my angle right. Takes all of ten seconds to put it up

I'm naked without my leatherman. Its clipped to my pocket at all times.

I like the regular nut and bolt idea BayouGuy, think I might try that as well. Course those welded lag bolts that stxranchman posted are cool as well.

I like it stxranchman. But I'd want to modify the vertical shaft in some manner so as to provide a tilt adjustment.

Re: A Simple Game Camera Tree Mount - 09/10/15 06:44 PM

When I need vertical adjustment I use a cordless drill to angle my hole the direction I need it. Once drilled the hole stays there for a long time if you use it every so often. Use that for the camera to angle downward in certain locations.
