Yes sir, they are great bait. Used them with a cork when I was a kid, small pond frogs worked too, but Hoppers are easier to catch!

Thanks men. This reminds me, I honestly got confused on a couple of the bass, spotted or Guadalupe. The large mouth are obvious I guess. So ID the two up top and this one.

Re: Everything eats grasshoppers - 08/17/15 04:43 AM

Grasshoppers were always the testers when I was a kid roaming the county. When we found a tank we would chunk big yellow hoppers in an see how long it took them to get hit. If the hopper made it to the bank then there was no use bringing the rods out there.

Looks like an awesome day. And I really enjoy you blog.

Fox, coyotes, snakes, lizards, all kinds of birds . . . They are a high protein meal for many species.

Looks like a blast. I guess carp aren't just bottom scum feeders.

ID on the bass appear to be white, Guadalupe & largemouth in that order.

You can't see it but it has red eyes and I thought it was a small mouth too, and the one that looks like a large mouth but does not have a large mouth I thought was a Guadalupe. I didn't keep them so guess it don't matter but I thought I knew what I was catching but realized I didn't.

I think it takes a biologist to differentiate between Spotted Bass and Guadalupe Bass. The two shown are not Largemouth Bass.
