Great pics!! I don't fish with my Rolex on though. Afraid it might end up at the bottom of the lake.

Who am I kidding......I don't even have a Rolex. grin

I bought it off a guy in New York-he had a whole coat full of 'em! smile

STX that is a rufous hummingbird - stays up north mostly, very rare to see them here.

That is what I thought it was. They are supposed to range in my area but have never seen one. I know they range northwest/west of San Antonio. They are colorful.

Yessir, but with propane, solar array, wood stove and generator if need be you don't notice it. The cabin is wired with lights that run off the solar array. House is heated by built in propane heaters if the wood stove doesn't cut it.

For cooling, just shut the windows when the sun breaks over the mountain to keep the cool air in the house if the day is going to be a warm one. Most of the time you can just leave them open.

Few more:

The driveway and front porch view. River is just at the base of the mountain.

Re: Montana - 07/30/15 09:39 AM

A Rick Bass book on the night stand seems in order to me. Bass....another Texan who has adopted Montana. Did I read where he has left the Yaak Valley and now calls the environs around Missoula home?

Looks like a guy could get real comfortable there. I hope your family enjoys it as well; I'm not sure that my daughters would have embraced the backwoods life to the same degree as all of us here.

WELL DONE, I say!

Wife and I going for a week in August. You got me fired up to go.

Re: Montana - 07/30/15 11:19 AM

Dave I hope I run into Rick sometime. I believe his place is in the Missoula region, as our place is.
Yep Jensent we close it in from November to April. It's 22 miles up a mountain road - snow machines or horses are the only options then.
Stub that one is a brown trout. But brook trout, rainbows, and cutthroats are all plentiful.

Pretty place. That hummingbird is cool. You need to wear bells and carry pepper spray when you go fishing though. grin

Awesome place and the hummingbird is sure pretty. Traveled up to Montana years ago. Joliet and Red Lodge area. God's country for sure! Fell in love with it. That "River" you posted is a creek in the locals vocabulary. Awesome pictures.

Re: Montana - 07/30/15 04:27 PM

NP, do you use the cabin to also base hunt out of? I think I would be a proud owner of a few snow machines if that was my place, Christmas would be a great time to be there with the family. And talk about a great "outfitters tent" for hunting!!

It's about an hour out of Missoula in the middle of the Lolo National Forest.

Western haven't hunted out of it yet but that's in the cards for the future. Gotta draw some tags though.

Beautiful place and great photos! It is a shame that they introduced the Canadian Gray Wolf to possibly the most beautiful state in the Union. Now the elk and deer herds are dwindling and livestock producers are next in line.
Adios,
