Not Your Typical Axis Buck - 05/27/15 01:37 AM

Found this picture on the interwebs. Anyone know the story behind this stud? Never seen one with a build like this.

Looks fake to me. I never seen a dead deer that could hold his head up by himself

I have. Put the deer in a walk in over night at just the right pose, and BAM sits up perfect.

Also this axis is the new #1 LF free range axis.

Yep, thought more people knew about the freezer trick to pose an animal.

Got the pic in a text but don't know the story. Really interesting shape for an axis

That buck is sweet! Yup walk in cooler or cold weather poses make for great pictures but a pain in the arse to skin after

But whitetails and axis can't interbreed!!

Bound to be one in the woodpile.

...or it's photoshopped. Something about that deer's left main looks superimposed to me.

we darted a couple in the pasture one year while they were in heavy velvet and cut their main beams and got drop tines on both.

Especially since that photo was taken the next day or at least several hours later.

Re: Not Your Typical Axis Buck - 05/28/15 02:08 AM

At first I thought it had to be photo shopped. I've got to believe some kind of cross breeding took place.

I have definitely seen it with Mule Deer and Whitetails so why not Axis and Whitetail?

Very cool looking buck. cheers

They are in disguise, Scooter, hence the Groucho Marx get-up on their faces

Maybe they hunted for something else before they came back to camp and took the picture? And why do you care?

I believe it said the hunter was from Snyder. That's not what I'd call a real big city

Re: Not Your Typical Axis Buck - 05/31/15 01:24 PM

I seen this deer about a month ago was wondering how long it would take for it to finally show up on here. It is a very unique non-typical very special in how the drops are shaped and formed on the main beems. Have seen drops on axis before but not to this magnitude . CONGRATS to the hunters you have a very special trophy.

Re: Not Your Typical Axis Buck - 06/02/15 02:37 AM

I've heard that different genus argument before but I know we had some doe on a lease in Evant area that had spots but were whitetails.
