The permit were caught with medium spinning tackle , 40 lb braid, 20 to 30 lb leader.

The grouper were caught with the same rods we were using for Tarpon , 60 lb mono with
40 lb leader. The reels were conventional Penns, smaller than the 30 lb class used
for trolling.
We also used heavy spinning tackle to pitch live pinfish to breaking Tarpon , that
was a lot of fun.

007Hunter,

I had one about that size eat a big Mackerel that I hooked ,
He came back for the head and I had him hooked for about 20 ft.

I did land a couple of cudas that were close to 4 ft.

This catch was really cool. He was stalking my son and his buddy who were spearfishing (or should I say, the fish they had). I grabbed a spinning rig and did some sight casting and he nailed it on the second cast. It was fun...

And for anyone who has never hooked into a Tarpon...ya gotta do it...a total blast...
