They look pretty sweet. Should work great and shouldn't get hung up on them either.

So...where exactly are you going to put those. I would like to do a little "research" on the effectiveness before I build some of my own grin

Looks good, can't wait for them to move back up. Love me some crappie food

From what I've read as long as it is not a navigational hazard to boats and is a nontoxic item (pvc and concrete) it is ok PHFH

txhunter, you aren't far from me. Maybe we can get together. Headed to the chicken coop tomorrow to give it a shot before this rain hits.

I saw Mansfield and was thinking Louisiana on the Texas border for some reason. I'll keep you updated on how it works though

We have had decent luck on the pvc "crappie condo's", they last for a long time too. For some reason ours haven't been as productive as Brush and Bamboo, but they do work and we have caught some big slabs off of them. One of our favorite piles is a mix of Bamboo and PVC in 18' of water, but it is all piled around an old fallen tree laying on the bottom too. You will catch some fish off of those no doubt. Get a good gps mark on em, they are hard to see sometimes even with the new side scan / down scan.

Re: Homemade crappie holes - 01/30/15 05:03 PM

Well done. Looks great and those will hold fish I bet.

I would suggest that you place something at the bottom so those do not tip over. Just a suggestion.

Last ones we put out at night, had a boat with side scan fishing them the next afternoon. But yes, they will work put in the right water

Re: Homemade crappie holes - 02/01/15 12:21 PM

Agree with Chickenman. To keep them from tipping over, run rebar through the bottom of the bucket, fill with concrete, and extend the bar a little further out than the width of the pvc pieces.

Put an eye hook in the top of the concrete so it can be lowered without tipping over.

I like yours better than brush piles because you won't get hung up on them.

If those work like I think they will. I'm building some. Please post results.

Re: Homemade crappie holes - 02/02/15 08:04 PM

Make sure you put some rebar in them to keep them upright, otherwise they will end up as lay downs. I would also suggest putting some hardwoods or brush in there as well, in between the PVC. I've been pretty lazy this year with building crappie structure but here is some of the stuff I've done in the past. The bamboo has turned out to be the best yet. I put 7 of them in a circle, the bamboo leaves come off easy enough that you don't hang up on them. I've also sank around 35 xmas trees but didn't get a whole lot of pictures of them.
