How hard is it to put a good edge on tool steel? How does the edge last compared to other material?

Re: 10" Chopper & 6" Runt - 01/30/15 03:24 PM

Thanks again for looking and/or commenting.

Titan2232 - O1 takes a fine and tough edge relatively easy. It is a very forthright steel to work with , heat treat, use and sharpen. O1 is not a space age, exotic and hyped wonder steel. And, that is what I like most about it.

ps There is no knife task that a good blade made from any of the top 10 knife making steels can't accomplish.

Jeff

Runt made from .250 O1 tool steel - no scales on this 1/4" stock model. This particular blade is ready for heat treat.

Always bear in mind that bevel geometry has a lot to do with the performance of any cutting tool. The Runt above has an inclusive (primary) bevel of ~25 degrees, which is ~1/2 of most secondary beveled knives.

Thank you - glad you like the Runt and Runt .250. I finished the one below yesterday.
Runt .250

Runt .250 flip side of asymmetric bevel

If you have a need to shave with a crowbar, the Runt .250 is your ticket.
