Stone Cold Fox

Stone Cold Fox - 01/08/15 09:54 PM

Set out a box trap to try and catch a bobcat that's been causing us some consternation. Instead I found this in the trap at daybreak. Guess I'm getting old and soft because I let the girls talk me into releasing it. I guess a fox isn't really any danger to my goats.

Not yet. But he's spooked our horses a couple of times and has been seen lurking to close to the goat pen for my comfort.

Cool pics, thanks for sharing.

Had a fox with a den in my back yard. I thought it was pretty cool. New neighbors moved in behind me with a chicken coop and a couple months and missing chickens later no more fox.

Left over chicken thigh from last weeks supper covered in brisket grease from my smoker... He ate well while incarcerated.

Don't see many of those in live traps. Try this to avoid skunks and coons and fox, unless you want them too, I've caught more than one cat with a single feather hung in the trap where it could blow around and a little scent, that's it. Curiosity killed the cat.

Fox is no threat, agreed.

A bobcat will stone cold murder some goats. No question.

Cool pics and story. They are kind of neat animals (if you are not raising chickens).

You didn't stick your finger in there to pet him?

I did when I was 8 - Have 4 stitch scar as a reminder -- Thought it was a little puppy at a friend's farm in a cage - OOPS! ninja

He wasn't in the mood to be petted. Made sure I had heavy gloves on when I opened the door in case he wanted to inflict a parting gift.

Under your circumstance, I would have released him too, just don't hate like I used too. grin If it was causing damage, different story.

Have any leg hold traps? I have caught cats with feathers, plastic, pie pan, chicken wing, or rooster in a cage. Their sense of smell is poor, but eyesight is great and they go after movement like any house cat.
