hog trap saloon gate - 12/15/14 07:45 PM

Welded up my first trap gate last week and painted Saturday. Setting the trap tonight. I googled some pics and gathered up scrap square tubing/angle iron from the barn and slapped it together. If there are any deficiencies, I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. If y'all see something that needs critiquing, please, feel free.

Only thing I've found is hogs aren't crazy about pushing on wire or gates that are not smooth, assuming you wanna continuous trap style. I usually wire some plywood to the bottom half and spray w diesel. Once it's tripped, they seem more likely to push on it if it stinks and is smooth. Nice looking gate tho, I've not tried my hand at a saloon style. Keep us updated.

Looking good! A little sow in heat urine should help entice them to root in as well.
