Great Grandpas Rifle

Great Grandpas Rifle - 12/06/14 01:35 AM

My Great Grandpas Rifle is back out in the field. My Dad handed me down my Great Grandpa's rifle.
It is a Marlin 30-30 with octogan barrel. It has a four digit serial number and was made in 1893. I have carried it hunting with me all rifle season so far. My goal for this year is to harvest a deer with the rifle.

The neat thing is that it can be used just like it was 120 years ago. How many things can you do that with? Very cool.

Love it!!!! My Grandpa's Marlin 1894 in 38-55 made in 1898. It also has the octagon barrel. I have killed deer, pig and turkey with it. Love shooting and hunting with it.

Cool story and pictureup The only thing that can top that will be when you post another pic along side of your first harvest. Best of luck to you!

I've got my great great grandpa's old marlin model 1894 30-30 with an octagon barrel, too. It's an awesome gun, it shoots fine and is accurate out to about 100 yards. I shot a heavy horned 8 pointer with it a few years ago. I look forward to the day I can pass it on to one of my grandkids, just as my granddad did to me and his granddad did to him. Its a family treasure for sure.
