My first droptine buck....

My first droptine buck.... - 11/24/14 02:01 AM

and he is a bang 5 point with no browtines and narrow to boot. I think the droptine is actually an injury but with his narrow spread he gets a pass so hopefully I will be able to track him for the next couple of years. He showed up about a month ago and is now jumping into feed pens. So if he stays around maybe he will eat protein.

Thinking this 6 point and this little buck might be related.

Had this young buck that I knew was around but had only seen him 2 times at a blind and it was to dark to get any pics. Finally showed up this morning and acted like he owned the place. He was very aggressive and run a 3yr old buck off so I am not sure about his age now. I thought he might be a 2 yr old in the TC pics at night of him and when he was around the house this summer.

He then decided he would run off another buck that appeared to be about his same size and age. He postured up and walked at him then run him off.

Had another buck show up that had been gone for a couple of weeks also. He has been in a fight and broke off part of his mainbeam.

This young buck showed also yesterday evening.

And finally this young buck eating the secret leaf that makes them grow.

Those 2 in your first post could be related. Unless no brow tines is common in your area. Great photos.

The only two that are 2yrs old or older that I have seen this year so far.

I think I will keep what I got...well I don't have a choice on the droptine since he won't make AR's for a while. He might get to be as old as the buck you posted someday too. hammer

Ranch man if you could shoot another would you cull the one with no brows or keep him because of the drop

I would shoot the older 6 point first.

Most definitely, if you were mld3 and could shoot him would u consider him a cull tho ??? Or does he get a free pass for having a drop? Just curious if that small drop would save him from being a prime target to be culled

I would have shot both as yearling spikes if I were on MLD and had this place when they were born. grin
But yes on both due to lack of browtines due at there age if under MLD. Droptine in this case is more than likely an injury. I have culled a couple of bucks that had droptines in the past.

Sheesh, talk about high population areas.

The last 2 yrs it was around 25-26 and this year for some reason there has been at least one new buck per week show up. Some stay and are regulars at the feeders or corned areas and others are one time only.

Yeah, it also just dawned on me that you probably have a lot of land, though most of your pics seem to be in the same area.

Not that much. But my neighbor on two sides does not shoot a buck very often and I have not either. So numbers should grow a bit. We have about a section between us and seem to see the same bucks year to year. Some are not very good and others are good for their age. AR's protect a lot of the younger ones and some of the older ones that need to go. I do what I can with protein, food plots, water and no cattle at this time.

I would let him walk in the name of science and a drop tine is a drop tine. Even with a small rack he is kind of like the Spud Webb of the deer world. He want ever be big but he was fun to watch

I really don't a choice since he fall under the AR rules for spread. But I did get pics of him last night eating out of protein feeder. So maybe he will hang around and turn into a moose

It would be cool a few years from now to see him turn into a Bullwinkle

It is a Canon 7D with a Canon 500mm lens. I used a tripod on all those pics.
Thanks.

Looks like you've had some timely rainfall. I love to see the mud flyin' in some of those pics.

Looking at these Im realizing I need a new lens. I'm also curious about distances and if these have been cropped much after they were shot.
