There is a new sheriff in town...(buck fight pics)

Well let me start this off by saying I used my only 13" buck tag already so spare me the grief I got in the blind just after 4:20 and ran deer off that were on left over corn from this morning. Had my camera set up like I always do. Deer started to filter back in after about 15 minutes. Had some bucks showing up and one of the mature 8's that was here all year in my TC pics was moving in behind the feed pen. I looked up and he was bristling up off to my right. I knew it was a buck by his posture. But I was not expecting what stepped out into the opening. No tag left but had a CF card in the camera so it was time for pics.

He surveyed the surroundings and decided it was election time.

He walked toward the other mature 8. When I saw this posture and licking of his lips I knew what was about to go down.

I turned the camera to auto setting and ran the ISO up for pics that were going to have motion in them. They did.



They were very evenly match body size and in strength. It was a stand off with not one give an inch either way.


They got behind the feed pen and lost focus off and on due to it. I was shooting frames as fast as my camera would let me but still had to stop and wait for it to process images.

You can see the power in the bucks in these pics. They were not playing at all. I was not really sure who was going to win at this point.

The winner was crowned and he escorted the old sheriff out of town.





To the victor go the spoils...or in this case all the does.

One last pic of him. He tortured me till way after dark till I could not see anymore. I finally had to get out hoping he was gone.


Editing to add a better pic of the buck he got into the fight with. He came back in after about 30 minutes but wanted no part of the bigger 8. I was shocked that he lost the fight. But the other buck got underneath him and that was it. He gave up, tucked tail and ran for his life.

He will put on another 10 inches next year. Great buck and some of the coolest pics I've ever seen.

Yes after this morning hunt and he was not in any of the pics. I could tell after he kicked arse and took names on his return he was spooked a bit of the feed pen and surroundings he had not been around here this year. I might have a couple of really blurry TC pics of a buck that could be him a from last year about this time. Different feeder but very similar buck, just that buck appeared to be a year older than this buck.

Awsome pics and I might add that the narration was not too shabby either!

He came in around 5 this afternoon then stayed an ate corn and nudge does around till well after dark. I finally could not see anymore so I had to hope he had left when I got out.

I had forgotten I was shooting pics in RAW and jpeg until I got in and put them on my computer. They are nice pics but the fight was 125-130 yards away and it was a dark overcast day today. The first couple of pics are at 175 yards or so. Don't think they will be magazine quality though.
You are correct I was in the right place at the right time and I had my camera setup on the tripod ready to go.

You can throw out some guesses if ya'll like. I know what I said to myself the first 3 seconds I had the binos on him about age and score. Never did add him up till much later after he was there for a while. I was busy taking pics of him and watching what he was doing. The buck he whooped and walked him off came back and thought it would a rematch but it never panned out. I had bucks moving in and out so I was watching all the activity also.

STX my old buddy, old pal! I think you took the "little one" this year What aaaaa Buck!! and he doesn't even look a day over 4.5 to me!! Next year he should be able to whoop your pickup! If your out in your civies, I'd make sure the butt flap is locked down!!

The 8 in my sig pic scored just under 130 and your 8 has more length in all the tines and I think is a few inches wider along with longer main beams. Id say your 8 is mid 140s at a minimum.

4.5 low 150's

We'll I'll go 4.5 and right at 150 or Maybe just shy he is almost perfectly square hight and width. A magnificent animal!

That's my "gut" feeling as well , somewhat based on the nice buck STX took with the xbow, but this one is "MUCH BIGGER"

In the picture of the 2 of them walking off from behind, they look like they have the same genetics.

Hes got it all to be in the 150's, the one killed on are place was 152" I dont think STX has the G2&3's are as long but he makes it up in the Mass. I dont think hes 5.5 looks like a rutted up 4.5yo maybe wrong. Very nice buck for sure.

Great shots sir. I'm no expert scorer but I'd say about 135. Beautiful buck for sure.
I've spent many hours photographing wildlife and while at times I've wished I had a rifle and a tag but for the most part I'm just happy to be in the field with some of God's finest creations. Well Done, and thanks for sharing with us all! Baker

Man that is an awesome progression of pictures. Ive seen lots of young bucks sparing but never seen two big boys duke it out. Cool photos thanks for sharing.

I hated they got behind the feed pen. I took 53 pics of the fight and it only lasted 1 minute and 20 seconds. It seemed like 5 minutes while I was taking pics. A lot pics were blurry behind the pen and from the taller grass they were in. I have always dreamed of having my camera and then have 2 bucks get into a fight. It happened finally just not the best location. The pic above that one is a really good one also.

Look back through the pics this morning and found several pics that showed blood on the bucks left ear. Then found this one with blood from the ear along the back of his neck and base of the antler.

Great pics as always and I feel for you. That 8 is surely a stud that anyone would be proud to put on the wall but at least he's going to spread those genetics a little.

I have 4.5 and 145. He is a beautifully semetric buck. At least you have bigger bucks already on the wall....takes the sting out of it a little.

Ended up with 143" but I will wait on the Taxi score and average it out.

I think yours will hit 150 and in another year he could easily put on 10" maybe.

We hunted on Friday and did not see this buck. Although he was at a different feed pen on Friday afternoon, but not any of them on Friday morning. I had checked the TC's on Friday midday and had not gotten any pics of the buck. Pulled the cards today to check them and found these pics of the 8.
