I found this old Buck skull on my parents ranch !!!

I found this in the late 60's...We had 248 ac. in Argyle tx. I had only seen 1 deer my whole life there...I found the whole deer...Dad told me not to tell anyone, cause the whole world would be coming over our fence and hunt...

Its 26in inside width...not sure on main beams... 7in around base...
He was a fine buck at one point...

Put a yard stick in the horns take a pic where you can see the numbers and lets see it again please.

Mr. Redchevy....As far as your post, I trust that your not saying that I would lie about the size of these antlers... Im sure that your not, but I will not take a pic with yard stick, just for you...But to help easy your mind about the width of them...The pic is in front a a wooden fence...I built the fence, it 1x6 treated pine..(5 1/2 in. each board)...I think if you count the boards and the corner post (4x4), you can see the size of them...Do some adding, but don't insinuate that Im not telling the truth...I would not take kindly to that !!!

A yard stick would be great....counting boards at a different distance does not help.

The perspective is difficult to grasp...the bases don't look like they are 5 inches much less 7.

Same thing happens to fish depending on how far they are held out. It is difficult to grasp 3 dimensions in a photo.

Nobody suggested anything. All he asked was to add a yardstick to the pic so we could judge for ourself.

The Antlers, are what they are...At 61, born in Texas, I learned a long time ago, not to let a bullies bother me...I have taught my children to stand up to bullies, along with my grand kids (9 of them)...Can I put a measuring stick across them, yes. I always figured there were deer around there. Lots of woods around Argyle. That area sure has changed(developed). Many more deer around there these days.

Hey, when you make claims like 7" bases and 26" wide, you should take a better picture than that or expect some doubt.

I see them all the time around Argyle, now. But in the 50's 60's and 70s it was earth shaken new to see one...

I watched a doe in early 60's on my dads place...Never seen this buck at all...Lots of other wildlife... I sold the 248 ac a few yrs back...Its has about 6 houses on it now...Also a lot of deer and turkey..My have things have changes....

Really? Then why not post pic and no dreamed up measurements everyone would have said great, awesome, nice find, but you had to add measurements that are obviously incorrect for whatever reason and you didn't think anyone would call you on it. SMH

By the same token, a lot of us don't believe everything we see and hear. Pictures can be deceiving, but 7" bases is quite a claim. If you're going to claim something that hard to believe, then you should expect some people to doubt you, especially when you don't back it up. It's nothing to get all wound up over, on either side, but this is what you can expect in this situation.

If you think your catching hell over this ,shoot a nubbin buck in a high fence over a feeder and see what you get.

Well you post made up measurements like that just expect to be called out about it.

I haven't a clue what redchevy's motives are but there are a lot of guys on here talented enough to make a real good guess as to the inches of this deer. It is a trophy regardless!

My Dad who is a judge always taught me when someone calls you on something and you have a way to prove you are right ( which you do ) you do it. Kind of a put up or shut up mentality. Only reason I can come up with that you won't shut everyone up is that you know you are wrong. If I'm wrong prove it and I'll be more than happy to apologizes to you. Given that he is holding it up to the camera, you can still make out the proportions. 23 inch spread and 6 inch bases. This came from a very reputable site. All I'm saying is when the two are put side to side there is a very significant difference you sir are insulting half of the THF intelligence making claims like that. All in all it is still a trophy and a good story, just don't exaggerate as much. @huntfishnshoot

browning... As the official photo police and chief CSI investigator for THF I suggest you put your pictured bucks horns outside for 50+ years then post us a copy for a true comparsion. I'm sure you will still be on the case.

Ok, I will play. Presuming your log brace is built with a horizontal 2x4, (shown at the bottom of the pic)... I took my measurement from it, as it is the closest landmark to the distance away from camera to your horns. If my rough calculation is correct, I've got 26" too. The bases under the same calculation come to 5.5" tops, but that is harder to do from a pic. Either way, he was a great buck!

I just measured the width between the bases of the antlers on a skull mount of mine. Comes out to right at 2 inches. You put the ruler to the screen and do the math, that comes out to about 23 inch inside spread. I know it not perfect, but that deer could have very well been 26 inside. Bases, I have no way to judge that.

They are still there, been several monsters shot there over last few years.

I measured a buck this weekend that had 6" base one side 5 3/4 on the other, and also measure several from Oklahoma with 6"-8".

The buck in the picture looks monster like because of the way the antlers are being push to the camera, guy holds them closer and it looks a lot smaller

Oh for what its worth I killed a deer with 9.5 and 9.25 bases this year so yall play nice

This is a perfect example of why I will NEVER EVER post bucks and even insinuate that I know his measurements. Or his age. 99% of the time I won't mention the distance of the shot but this year I laser measured it at 7 yards.

I understand this concept that's why I said the phrase " given that he is holding it up to the camera". The picture I posted does make it look bigger than it actually is but what I was trying to get at was the comparison between the two. This was shot up north, aka bigger skull making the bases more apparent, and when you compare it to the other deer it is without question a bigger rack even with being held to the camera is taking into consideration. The width is up in the air, I don't believe he's any bit of 26' but I would put money that deer does not have 7 inch bases. It's kinda like when you got caught in the cookie jar as a kid but refuse to admit to guilt despite being caught red handed.

Both of them aren't going to measure that much. You are measuring at the burr not at the smallest point between the burr and next point or this case midway point to end of mainbeams.

That must be one of those cape buffalo/whitetail crosses.

I'd say no chance at all it's a muley if it came from Argyle. A whitetail would have been very rare in Argyle back then. There isn't a native mule deer within 200 miles even today.

Here's a pic! This buck is 24 inches wide and has 4 1/2 inch bases, several members have seen this buck. One member even seen it on the hoof the year it was shot.

Yep! He came off my place about a 1/2 mile from where Pink took her buck on the THF Ladies hunt.

TY!. My biggest. I posted not so much to show off (Maybe a little) but to give a comparison. This buck is 24 1/4 inside and the circumference measurements stayed the same all the way to the last one.
