is the neches river safe to take a kayak or canoe? i want to hunt big slough with a boat

Several years ago we did a 2 night trip trip down village creek which feeds into the neches. We actually got out in the neches close to the confluence of the two. Really great trip, the sand in that area (on village creek anyways) is great real dry silicone like sand. I’d think the neches would be great as well.

Safe from what? Current? People? Animals? Boggy creek monsters?
