Thank goodness for the rain today. Already got 8/10 with more predicted. Not a great amount but we'll take it.
We are getting poured on at home.

It's suppose to rain all week here in east Texas. I'll have several mud holes to drive through to get to the stand. But then not as many hunters will be out.

It's very dry out south of Brownwood. Main pond below house is dried up and creek only has water in the holes with small springs in them. Winter oats and wheat not doing very well. Wife's out there today and they aren't getting the rain like the DFW area is.

Interestingly, the Farmer's Almanac has 2018 a bit cooler and wetter than normal, at least through October...

For the third year in a row, we've had over 40" of rain on our place in NE Webb County. It's been so wet we've not been able to hunt much, this season. Roads to and from ranch are a mess, as are roads on the ranch.
I pray that you guys all get the rain you need.

For the folks that need it, I hope they are wrong too. Maybe we need to get them some fresh Beechnut to chew and change their forecast
Glad we got 1.5" where I hunt, hopefully my food plot will bounce back.

Getting a sprinkle in Menard, but not enough to really measure. Pretty dry but not nearly as dry as it was in the Navajo Rez last weekend.
Adios,
Gary

We had in excess of 26 inches of rain on my place in Dickens this year against a average of 24. Property was lush but food plots were a bust as we got large amounts with very few occurrences.
It's a tough place for successful production!!!!
the old farmers were right, dry 2018

February had 14" in Dallas (a record), then nothing really until August. A bad year all around

WE have been fortunate in our area, decent rains with some runoff have left the tanks with water and the pastures in pretty decent shape. As we travel we see the opposite, both better and worse areas that did not get enough moisture and had a plenty of moisture.

Halfway between Bastrop and Lockhart.
It's pretty bad here - we had some rain but not much and spread out.
My hayfield looks pretty miserable and didn't make it.
My big stock tank is pretty low - it was restocked in 2012 after it dried out in 2009 and hoping it makes it.
And my huge 25' oak tree in center of peninsula at the same stock tank died suddenly midsummer.
Mesquites are thriving though.
Traded a heifer to my nephew for some square bales a few months back so that helped.
Been feeding hay and cubes everyday for a while though.
Probably need 2-3" of rain just to fill the weather cracks before it begins to run off!
the old farmers were right, dry 2018
Their chances were really good. It could be dry, wet, or the same. So the real questions are how they made such a prediction, if they can be consistently right, and if they acted on it before they got into trouble. Of course, every country town has their old farmers and not all agree on weather predictions.

well, at least dry weather means dove hunting will be good around the tanks.
