Idaho Muzzleloader Antelope

Idaho Muzzleloader Antelope - 10/17/17 06:59 PM

Just got back from our long road trip down to Texas, and had a little time to spend on my antelope tag here in my home state of Idaho. After last winters deep snows and extreme cold, the deer and antelope really took a hit, both in herd numbers and horn growth the following Spring. I hunted hard for 3 days, and this one was the best buck I could find in my unit. I saw about one third of the animals I am used to seeing. He is only 13" long, but really heavy horns. We nicknamed him "Stumpy". A broadside shot at 202 yards, slightly quartering toward me. I was able to shoot him in the center of the neck and exited the left shoulder. I was allowed to use a non-magnifying scope on the muzzleloader, since I have developed a focusing problem with my dominant right eye (20/100 now).

Good hunt.....next time try it with a real sidelock and make it a challenge.

No more of a challenge, when you do your part and PRACTICE. I shoot them all, and love my Hawkens too. Rock locks take a lot more getting used to tho!
