Hey all.

I have been lurking for some time and decided to join because this is a great forum full of information and will certainly feed a rediscovered addiction.

My lovely wife (42 years) and I retired in 2014. Last December we closed on 80+ acres in NE Edwards County. It is on a ranch parceled into hunting properties. Low fenced, low cedar (based on some places I looked at), and easy access by 2 wheel drive.

We have our electricity, septic, well, and double wide set up. 3 feeders and blinds up and have been feeding since January.

Since I work as a consultant off and on the year has been busy. We set up game cameras last visit and sat in a blind one morning. As the sun came up there was a sounder in the feeder. 6 does eventually came buy to eat and one young six point.

I have seen a few big bucks on the place. Neighbors tell me that there are axis, fallow, occasional black buck, and aoudad.

When I return in mid-October we will spend a few weeks there preparing for deer season. I have some more improvements to do to make it a more functional hunting property like a carport to clean animals under, fire ring, and others. I'm certain I will find good ideas here.

I have not had a steaming gut pile on the ground since archery season 1994. Work took me around the lower 48, Canada, and Mexico.

I bought the place so we can have fresh pork, and so our two sons and their families, my grandchildren can experience what the great Texas outdoors has to offer. Both our sons and daughters-in-law are teachers or coaches so have all summer to hunt but have problems getting away during gun season.

Working on it.

The owners lease the properties for grazing so there are cows on it. Keeps our Ag exemption. I'm going to run a water line from my well to a small tank and fence in the tank so the cows don't take the water as an invitation to make my property their main hangout.

Thanks for all the welcomes!

Get rid of the cows if you can. They wreck everything.

Not necessarily. I have plenty of cattle on the property that I hunt, and I have used the cattle as cover when stalking does feeding in the field. It's a hell of a lot of fun! That being said, I also don't have feeders on the property and the cattle are rotated pretty regularly.

3 strands of barb wire will keep most cows away from a feeder. Does on our place.

The cows don't bother my feeders. Coons do.
