Why? - 01/11/17 11:24 PM

So I worked by tail off to be able to get in the blind this afternoon
Trying one last time to get a second doe in the freezer

On this very same afternoon my neighbor decided to break in his new 22 pistol
So far he has fired 4-10 rnd mags full

I'm cursed

Gosh I hope
Wind is bringing the sound this way

We are friends
When he started I texted to make sure it was him and not a trespasser

We check on each other when. We hear shots
I never even mentioned I was hunting
Because he might feel bad and stop

I don't want him to feel bad about what he does on his land or when he does it
Same goes for me

It just stinks because he hardly ever just target shoots

You're a good neighbor. My neighbors were firing at their shooting range last day of the season. I didn't ask them to stop but I'm sure they would have if I'd asked. My season sucked anyway. Sunday was a day to recuperate anyhoo and drink beer.

The rifle range on our hunting lease is 300 yards long running North to South. I have a stand and 1/4 acre plot 100 yards West of the end of that lane. The stand is 318 yards from the shooting bench. I've often watched deer feeding on the plot when someone was using the range. Didn't seem to bother them. But if someone in the campground cranked up and ATV the deer would scatter.

I have watched deer get shot in the mix of a group and the remaining deer don't run off, they stand and watch in amazement.

You have to remember, deer don't know what a gun is, they just hear a noise, and they hear noises more often than some of us like to think (thunderstorms, branches breaking in wind, etc, not to include the man made noises they hear) so it shouldn't surprise us that deer if comfortable don't mind hearing shooting.

Now if the deer are uncomfortable, thats a different story.

and a lot of the time they will stand their ground not knowing where the shot came from until they hear the action of a rifle putting another round in.

one of my previous leases that was close to home was just a small meat type lease (~180 acres). The neighbor to the west frequently had people out shooting, and several times I was wondering if a zombie apocalypse had happened, several thousand rounds fired in an hour time frame. They were likely only 400-500 yards from where I would be hunting and I had deer come in to the feeder without reservation while WW3 was happening next door.

i think a lot of the time noises out in the woods are more annoying and bothersome to us than they are for the deer...like gun shots, chain saws, trucks, etc.... I know it annoys the heck out of me to hear sounds that shouldn't be being made while im out hinting but most of the time it doesn't hurt anything..
