Help me spend my money - 01/11/17 10:16 PM
I have about $350 or so bucks between Cabela's gift cards and Club points. Problem is, I can't think of anything I need. Plenty of gear, clothes, feeders, cameras, glass, etc., so I am taking suggestions. What is something you've found that is useful, but maybe not coming to my mind.
I've considered -
1) a new cooler, but can't really justify price or weight of Yeti.
2) a green/red feeder nightlight for hog hunting.
3) just spending it on a bunch of ammo, but don't really need anything.
4) applying it toward a safe, but honestly think I can find a better safe for cheaper elsewhere.
I went over last night and walked around the store aimlessly with cards burning holes in my pocket, but left empty-handed. Thoughts?

Buy a gun for a kid or grandkids. Doesn't have to be top of the line, just something that is theirs they can use and enjoy. Maybe a .22 or something.
Another option, buy something you can re-sell for similar value, and pocket the cash/spend it elsewhere.

It's not that hard. I can spend 350.00 in 10 minutes at Cabelas.
Just send it to me and I'll let you know what you bought when I get back!

Funny - I told my wife at dinner I should have bought an 870. Good suggestions all - thanks!

If you hunt from a box stand and don't have a Mr. Heater Portable Buddy Heater, drop $90 of your bucks on one.

ThermaCell heated insoles, maybe?
Ozonics unit (lol hunting tv ads flashbacks)?
I'd go with ammo if I were you

Save it and keep building points until you do need something.

Get that feeder night light and a $60 ice chest from Academy (if someone steals it out of the back of your truck then no BIG loss.) How about a dehydrator for jerky making?

This is the best advice, but is difficult to do. Make sure your gift cards don't expire.
Good pair of hiking/hunting boots?
Save it and keep building points until you do need something.
If you're like me, invariably you will want/need a new scope for a rifle one day.

If you've ever given thought to processing your own game critters, now is a good time to get into the tools necessary & Cabella's has a good selection of starter & better tools to offer...
To 2nd NP's suggestion. The Cabellas's line of Euro scopes & Optics are made by Meopta and have Meopta tags on the ones I've seen...another good upgrade potential...
Upgrade your Hunting Boot's ...the older I get the more important taking care of my feet it becomes...
Given your "play money"...I'd be like a kid in a candy store..have fun...but IMO I'd buy something that will give you Long Term Value and not just some frivolous "shiney object" trinket 'cause it's Free.

2nd on the good boots. Think I spent around $225 on my Danners close to 20 years ago, some of the best money I ever spent.
Personally would skip the feeder light unless you are going to run it all the time. My experience with the magnetic ones you only put up when your hunting is it will spook hogs. Might be better off getting a red/green light rifle kit. I was in there last week and they had a decent setup on sale for about $100.
If there is nothing you need save it until something comes up you do need.
Stuff every hunter needs:
A good range finder
Knife sharpening system (I like the belt sander type)
Game cameras
Meat smoker
Vacuum sealer
Pop up blind if you move around to different places to hunt
AR500 steel target if you target shoot much
Hunting pack
Deer decoy - Its cheap entertainment to watch the deer's reaction the first time they see one

Re: Help me spend my money - 01/22/17 06:23 PM
give it to Don Coxley back in the gun department so he can use it to help supply the Texas Youth Hunting Program hunts with items they need. Don is one of the huntmasters with the program.
Edit: didn't think about this; Don works in the FW Cabelas but if you are keen on the idea just get in touch with the TYHP at
http://www.tyhp.org/ Chris Mithcell is the Director and a great guy that will use it properly.
