Arby's to start selling venison

Arby's is going to start selling venison sammiches. Doesn't look like Texas made the test market though:

Sell venison I thought it was illegal to sell meat from a game animal.

it is for native deer ... there is actually an exotic meat market in Eden TX that sells all sorts of exotic venison.

Wow, I had no idea. I bet it's expensive.

$129 for 2 lbs. of backstrap?? Ouch.

Its been a long time ago, but I remember when we got our first new big HEB they had "Premium Axis Flank" for sale at just over $20/lb. That was 10-15 years ago.

The prices on that website are just stupid...but people pay it

Arby's is ok at best, the only thing I like there is the curly fries.

I do like their new commercials on the hunting channels. At least they are open to our passion and not a bunch of scaredy cats bowing to the liberals.

Red deer, it is imported from outside the states but accounts for most of the over the counter venison I've seen. They farm them like cattle in some places.

They messed up the brisket sammich badly.

Now venison? I don't think so.

Friend of mine travels to NYC regularly on business. He told me he was with clients and saw axis venison on the menu. It was $200/plate. Since he was on an account, he ordered it. He said it was delicious, but not any better than I make (he might have just being nice) , but he said he only got three 3" medallions.

Next they will come out with a "Large Mouth Bass" sammich....

Yeah, I try not to think about how much it costs per pound, I might mention it in my sleep one night and never be able to hunt again!

Hah! Beat me too it. Talley up the total spent all season and calculate that against the meat in the freezer.

This is more important to me than the taste of the sandwich or the price. My hat's off to them for offering something like this in our current environment. It takes some serious stones to do that.
