Any one hunted Elk in White River National Forest? - 10/10/16 04:00 PM

A buddy of mine is looking to do his first diy elk trip next year and is curious about that area. I wasn't sure if any of yall had hunted up that way or not.

He's currently looking at Units 23, 24, 33, 25, 231. Any pros/cons of those?

Hunted 36 close enough to look down on Vail, but that was aloooong time ago. All I had was a deer tag, saw 2 deer and crapload of elk... When we lived up there, saw a lot of elk late fall off i-70 through there (enough they have fenced it off and added tunnels for the migrating herds..)

Been a few years but I hunted about halfway between Rifle and Meeker. Rio Blanco turnoff towards Rangsley. Think it was called Peoncy Creek Road. Lots of hunters. Migratory movement through that area. Quite a few Elk and Mule Deer at times.
