Booked a hunt.. But...

Booked a hunt.. But... - 08/03/16 12:26 AM

So I booked a hunt in New Mexico a couple weeks ago for $2500 and was told that the the hunt included tags, license, guide, meals, and lodging and all I had to do was arrive. Well I sent the deposit a few weeks ago and was just told there was an additional $146 tax. I know that's not a lot of money but it seems to me they should have told me about a tax. What do y'all think?

No big deal, pay the tax and enjoy your hunt.

I go on on paid hunts every year and have paid a tax on some of those hunts. However, the outfitter usually informed me of any tax before I book.

I'd tell him I needed a printed receipt showing the taxes paid.

$2646 for a NM elk hunt is cheap. I'd pay the tax and feel lucky to be elk hunting NM in the fall.
It's beautiful there and screaming elk in the early morning will make it all worth it.

That is cheap for a elk hunt, send the tax. Most major purchases I've made never quote me the tax.

Sounds like a cheap price for a elk hunt. Check his website and see if it says anything on there. He probably should have told you, but it's also one of those things as a purchaser you have to check on yourself. We don't charge taxes on our hunts in Texas so I wasn't prepared for it when I had to go bear hunting in BC back in May. But really I consider that my fault. It was mentioned in his brochures, just not billetted out so you could easily see it. Kind of a pain, but hey it was orobably the smallest expense of the entire trip too.

It's an antelope hunt. And I just found out the hunt is 2×1 guided hunt. The hunt is usually $4000 but the original hunters couldn't make it bc of work so I got it cheaper because they lost their deposit. I'm sorry but when you are going to go on a $4000 Antelope hunt I would imagine it's 1x1. Guess I should have asked and the lodging is now a hotel. I'm wondering if I get my own room or at least my own bed?

Taxes got me on my NM hunt also. Grant it it was disclosed on power of attorney I signed.

I'd worry more about making my shot count then motel. Could be worse you could be driving 22hrs one way like me

Based on the elk & mule deer hunts I have researched in NM, CO, the last couple years, 2x1 guided hunts seem to be the standard. That fact, in addition to the fact that you got a discounted rate for the hunt, it's not surprising at all.

I've been there. I wonder if it's the same people.. At least you know now. I found out when I got there. I was on a really tight budget back then and it really brought me down. I ended having a great time in the end. I'm not sure why they do that but I wouldn't let it get me down.
