Online License Sales

Online License Sales - 07/26/16 03:47 PM

I brought a new to the sport person fishing and told him to get a day license on the web(http://tpwd.texas.gov/business/licenses/online_sales/) which should cost $11. However, the site adds a $5 processing fee which boosts the cost to $16! Why would TPWD think it's fair to charge 50% for processing? I can see a $1 for the convenience but $5??? Making it easy to get a license shouldn't be so expensive.

Its worth $10 or $20 not to have to stand in line at a store where the clerk more than likely doesn't know how to operate the machine. Especially the few days before dove season.

I buy the super combo on-line every year.

That's the profit for the vendor that runs the site, the fees are set, that's the add on

It's probably a $5 dollar charge regardless which license you get.
I always just go to a place that knows how to print off the license I need, which is my local feed store.

Amen,
I'm usually buying three licenses, plus some lotto chances at hunts, way easier; and it remembers info from year to year... In fact, if it's open I'll do it now.

I think it's stupid that those of us that have a life time license have to go to a store to get the license. There is no option to do it online. I'd gladly give $5 to not deal with Little Timmy from the toy department trying to figure out a hunting license.

You were willing to pay $1, but are upset over the extra $4.-------------- I"m trying to remember the last time I got upset over $4.00. Better yet,,, I"m trying to remember the last time I got upset that my friend had to pay an extra $4.00!!!!!

I'm glad you're wealthy, but many of us aren't. And if you look at it from a percentage point, a 45% surcharge is pretty steep for a 'processing' fee.

Whiptail you can go to a store and save the 5 dollars.

I buy the super combo online and gladly pay the 5 dollar fee. no travel no crowds to deal with up

Do the math on this.... If you go online and get the FREE Sand Hill Crane Stamp, it costs $5.00 to process it.

Your percentage is?????????

I have been buying online for years & years.
It's worth every penny to me.

Yall do know, that you can also go to any District office and buy from the source. This is what I used to do before I bought my life time. Never no lines and I promise, they know what they are doing. If you are going to Wal-Mart, Academy, etc., you are just asking for trouble.

Re: Online License Sales - 07/27/16 06:26 PM

I have never had an issue buying a license at WM but I know many have. Still, I don't think $5 is too much for a convenience fee. A gallon of gas costs $2 I would burn almost 2 gallons driving from my house to WM and back.

At one time the Republic of Texas included half of New Mexico, now Texans are buying it back one lot at a time. 70 percent of Lincoln County NM tax statements go out of state, and most of that is to Texas.

That is very true. A lot of my friends from NM have a nickname for the Ruidoso area. They call it "Little TX".

The convenience of purchasing a license online saves me a lot of stress from buying my license at a local retailer.

Re: Online License Sales - 07/30/16 10:26 PM

I just got my hunting/fishing license and deer tag for Alaska online and was thankful for that option. I'm sure the vendors on Kodiak Island are more than qualified, but there was no way I was taking the chance.
My Texas license is lifetime so there is no online option, but I've been very lucky at my local Walmart. The people in sporting goods have all been there quite a while so it's always a quick process to get it printed out.

There is now. You can sign up for Lifetime Tags which are mailed to your house. That includes Sandhill Crane.

Nobody has to buy online. We are all hunters and obviously have enough free time to go hunting, so we could spend a teeny tiny percentage of that time going to get a license if we chose to spend our time that way. I probably will just get mine on my next grocery run to Wally World and have to wait on Timmy from Toys to figure out the procedure.

However, it is really a wealth issue? I doubt it is for people with internet, that go hunting, that apply for draw hunts each year, drive 1250 miles each way to hunt in Wyoming, eat Allsup's burritos, have internet, got nice optics, thinking about building new blinds, considering buying a ZTR commercial mower to mow your hunting area (<$6000 budget), etc. are suffering wealth issues.

If you've got time to complain about it online, then you probably have plenty of time to go stand in line a buy in person, right?

Re: Online License Sales - 08/09/16 02:23 AM

I just wait until mid-August, then I wander over to the local Academy and get my license. By then the rush is usually over, particularly mid-week. Of course being an old, retired fart who can spend an afternoon doing things like that sure simplifies things. Add to that my local Academy is only about a mile from my house . . .
