Rattlesnake Roundup - 02/21/16 05:31 PM

I made another video for you guys. I gotta say, I really am enjoying making these. I told my brother I need to borrow his drone to get some really good footage. Maybe of a good pig hunt or something?

If you've never been to the Sweetwater Roundup, it is quite a sight to see! To see the massive number of snakes that are caught is unbelievable. And they do it every year.........

Good job with the video but I'll pass on the catching part.

I've heard the one in Sweetwater is the biggest there is. I'd like to go one day just to check it out.

Re: Rattlesnake Roundup - 03/05/16 06:47 PM

Hate snakes. Started to go to the one in Sweetwater back in the 80's and got as far as the front gates and heard the buzzing. Turned around, cause they would let me take my 12 Gauge shot gun pulling a couple cases of #4's in my Little red wagon. Boom! scared

Re: Rattlesnake Roundup - 03/07/16 08:34 PM

Them are good people catchin those snakes so the rest of us have fewer encounters with the deadly things. Every one counts even if it doesn't put much of a dent in the population.

Nice video up

Okay, now the real question.....how much does the average snake weigh? Say a 4 foot one.

Re: Rattlesnake Roundup - 03/15/16 02:18 PM

OK...don't know if this has been said yet or not BUT...the scariest part for me is that I cannot see the snakes until they are on the end of the stick in the air.

Re: Rattlesnake Roundup - 03/15/16 06:46 PM

I'm not much on catching live ones either, especially this size......

I may be the only one here who doesn't have a problem with snakes, poisonous or not. When we encounter them in the wild even if its in or near a deer blind, we're on their turf. I usually don't kill any anymore just move them somewhere away from where I frequent. That being said rattlesnakes are pretty tasty.

I've got a place in Concho County next to OH Ivie Lake that has a few buzz bugs on it if anyone is interested in collecting a few. PM me if interested.

The mirrors reflect sunlight down into the hole so that we can see better. Easy to carry and doesn't need batteries. Sometimes the snakes will be a right at the top of the hole but you can't see them.

I am with you brother. I killed a bunch of bull snakes one day when I was a boy and my stepdad got on to me about killing snakes, even venomous ones because they keep the rats and pests in check. The other caveat, is if you keep the rodents and bunnies, and etc. in check near the home, the snakes are less likely to come around. I kill venomous snakes on my home turf, where my kids play. But in the woods I leave them alone.

Edit- I must add, it was a cool video. And I don't see the harm in hunting, harvesting, trapping, skinning, selling, etc. within the limits of the law for snakes or anything else. Nothing wrong with that. As long as they are not killed and just wasted...
