Will planting the acorn like seeds from these grow the trees in Young county? Do the deer like these at all?

I put Burr Oak acorns out for the pigs and they love them!! Never seen a deer touch one though. Watched deer walk right over them all week long.

Squirrels love them.
They bury them all over my yard. Little burr oaks are popping up everywhere in the spring.

I wonder the same thing. I've got some at my place and the acorns are the size of baseballs. Not sure what animals could get their mouth around them to break them.

Don't know about growing them, but the deer love them. I hunt out of one in Kansas every year. It's one of three trees in Kansas that you can actually climb with a Summit.

The size of the acorn lowers the desirability of the burr oak some, they'll eat them, but they'll eat any other white oak acorn first.

Burr Oaks are EXTREMELY slow growing, but are long lived. So planting burr oaks is really about producing results in 10-20 years from Acorns and even after 20 years, the trees will still be small in size as compared to planting something like live oaks.

Young County would be on the western edge of their natural range.

It is a great tree to have, the more the merrier, but slow growing.

They grow as fast as any other oak, give them water and they will grow.

You can sprout them from acorns, have done several that way, but never seen/noticed if deer eat them or not.

My Mom has a burr oak in her backyard. Every year she would rake the acorns up for me to use. Never saw a deer eat one, but the hogs sure did.

I've seen deer eat them. Beautiful trees that are hardy natives. Plant acorns in rich, loamy soil, down low. They are numerous around our creek bottom. Extra water when young and they'll thrive.
