More poachers

More poachers - 10/21/15 12:33 AM

Our lease has been hit with the sorry a-- scum of the earth. My hunter went to get the stick out of his cam this weekend and the stick was gone but his cam took a pic anyway in the internal memory unfortunately the pic is very blurred. It looks like a golf car of utv and have no idea how they got into the property.

I'm surprised that they didn't take the camera.
What county was this in?

Coleman county. My thinking is they left the camera so they could keep poaching. Maybe they are trying to be ethical and not be thieves! Sorry aces either way.

Hog hunters.

They don't care.

Re: More poachers - 10/21/15 01:41 AM

I'd bet someone close to there knows who it is. I tend to agree they are probably looking for their dogs and spotted the camera so they decided to steal the evidence but got caught. I'd let the game warden know about it.

I would let the game warden look know and let him take a look at the picture. He might know who runs hog dogs around you and be of some help.

Re: More poachers - 10/21/15 03:08 AM

Time to put a camera on your camera, if there is a place to hide it.
We had 5 cards stolen from one feeder during last deer season. We put up a cam to watch our camera and forgot about it until the card got stolen again last week, the batteries were dead bang
We also had a camera turned 90 degrees in a picture, then turned back perfectly to where it was for the remaining pictures. It now has a camera on it also.
My thought is that we have hog doggers too.
Sheriff is also a good guy to inform. All that you know for sure is that you have trespassers.

The very reason I quit leases. Why should I pay for a free for all, except me?

Re: More poachers - 10/21/15 04:04 AM

Camera on the camera is a good idea, but don't get your hopes up too high.

I had a well hidden camera and a decoy camera. Last year I got good pictures of a trespasser, that included a good profile and the license plate of the vehicle. Took them to the SO and told them I wanted to press charges. No action at all...at least I thought. Fast forward to this year. The hidden camera was stolen...almost like they knew where to look.

I hope there is a special place down below for these folks.

If they are using dogs, get those signs coyote trappers use to warn about cyanide traps. Post them on fences and gates.

Re: More poachers - 10/21/15 02:31 PM

Is there a locked gate to the property?

In that part of Texas, most fences and locked gates would prevent entry.

If the gate is locked and no fences cut it has to be someone known to the landowner or someone that works or is related to him. If the gate is locked, change the lock or combination.

2 locked gates to get into our property. Game warden has been contacted, LO went down today to check a wire gate that I was unaware of that connects to the east property. I have been on this lease since 2001 and have never seen this gate he is talking about. My LO will let other land owner know all about it if there are tracks coming thru that gate, my LO does not like anybody on his property.

I have studied the pic, tell me if you see a main beam in the steering wheel area in front of the poachers hand and what looks like a deer head.

Get you a sign from the Goverment trapper like this and post them on all the gates.

Looks like a snowmobile with wheels on the front and those are handle bars.

Better than a sign warning about traps, snares, cyanide are actually putting out traps, snares and cyanide. I would be tempted to put out tack strips on your roads if this is a regular occurrence. I would also take barb wire and run it randomly across a few of your roads a few feet off the ground, I guarantee that will stop them and force them to seek medical attention running into if full speed at night.

And catch you a nice lawsuit unfortunately....otherwise the time tested method of a deadfall pit would solve this.

Re: More poachers - 10/22/15 06:49 PM

Well, I am pretty sure you can have traps and snares on your property for beavers, coyotes, etc.

Some barb wire across a ranch road is called a fence where I come from so I would be willing to have a court date especially here in Texas with a jury if someone got injured riding around a night and just didn't know where I have fences on my ranch.

Now what I wouldn't do is a dead fall pit since that is a booby-trap... wouldn't want to do that since those are most definitely illegal.

I like the idea, but unfortunately, not all these guys use gates, especially many of the hog doggers that just cut fences.

Having been through a barbed wire fence on a UTV (as is being driven in the OP), I can tell you that your guarantee is pretty meaningless.

A fence is one thing, but running a single strand across a road is not apt to be considered a fence. In fact, it may be considered a booby trap. Here are several noted examples.

Looks like a guy kneeling in the bed aiming a rifle toward the feeder.

Listen for the sound of a ATV while you are there hunting as some make a distinct loud sound.
It's someone local for sure.

Re: More poachers - 10/23/15 11:55 AM

I can almost make out a deer in front, with a main beam showing. At least that is what my mind is telling me.

Re: More poachers - 10/23/15 04:39 PM

I feel your pain I have found evidence of poachers on my land also , if you have Hawthorn or Honey locust trees or any kind of thorn trees cut down branches and put them on the roads as a roadblock and on trails hidden covered with leaves or grass they will easily get flat tires or stabbed in the foot just remember where you put them.

Re: More poachers - 10/23/15 05:23 PM

just had the 1 strand wire go to the grand jury in Tyler. Killed a kid on a 4 wheeler. The guy said he was tired of people dumping on property. Grand jury no billed him. Doesn't mean it's over. Law suite sure to follow.
Photo is kind of like looking at those old ultrasound pictures when my wife was pregnant. Never had enough imagination to see what the doctor was talking about. But I see a dog in the front basket. a guy in the drivers seat, looks like a guy in the back, and another guy beyond the driver outside the cart thru the windshield.

I have plenty of these in red and white and they are for M-44s (cyanide guns), let me know if you would like a couple. Send a PM with your mailing address and I'll get you them.

M-44s (cyanide guns),

Looked them up. Wow what a diabolical little device. Would certainly do the trick.
