Still or Video on your trail camera's - 10/09/15 05:54 PM

I run 4 camera's on our place and all of them are set to take stills. Does anyone use video on their cameras and if so, what is the reason you do.

I don't use video, I would think because you can see and learn much more about the deer in your area. Yes it kills batteries faster

I have used video before but it will fill a SD card up in a hurry!!!! I have since quit since 99% of us on the lease video from our stands. We have found that we can tell more about a deer videoing for a longer period of time and while they are around other deer.

I have a spare Bushnell that is set up for video. I plan to mount it on my solar cam pole and let it video in the opposite direction as the Covert. I'll swap the cards when I hunt over that feeder.

I use still pics 99% of the time.

I will occasionally put it on video just for fun.

It is actually a lot of fun to watch 10 sec.clips of the deer sparing or playing around the feeders

I accidentally had mine set for video and it was painful going through each clip to see what was on it. Tons of birds, squirrels and trees moving in the wind with just a few of pigs walking around and deer eating corn. Really big mistake that I won't do again. When I download pictures, I can see dozens of them at the same time and I just click on the ones with a buck in there to see what time he was there, or if he is somebody new that I haven't seen before. 90% of the pictures i get are junk. 9% are mildly interesting. If I'm lucky, one percent are gold!!!

Mine stays on pics all the time now. I changed it to video once last year for a week and did something wrong in the settings and didn't have a single video the next time I checked it (the following weekend after the morning hunt). I know deer showed up, I saw them prior that morning. I said to heck with it and changed it back to pics and haven't touched the settings since roflmao

What video will show are bucks who do not actually go the feeder though. Young ones will go eat but mature ones will hang outside when they run in their bachelor groups. The video will pick them up when they walk by 20 seconds later but a still will only take the first pic and never get the wiser ones from what I have seen.

we use video a lot - use an 8 gig card and you will get plenty of videos. Some cameras are better than others. We like video because you can age a deer much better when you see it walk, interact with other deer, etc. We set ours to get one still pic followed immediately by a video -
