Question about ATV in Colorado?

Question about ATV in Colorado? - 06/22/15 07:11 PM

I am having trouble locating information concerning regulations/requirements for using ATV's on public hunting land in Colorado.

Does anyone have access to that information?

Reason I ask is because a buddy informed me that there is a size requirement for the ATV.

I can't find anything on it though. Help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
CM

You probably need to look at the regulations for the particular park area, like BLM land, that you will be hunting on. Such as in the San Juan National Forest.

<50" off the top of my head to meet atv trail requirements. I'll see if I can find it in writing on the site though.

All we had to do was buy a permit. We rode in town, on park forest roads, dedicated trails, never had a problem from the local law. Just be sure to obey the speed limits, stop signs, and know your hand signals.

What ATV are you taking? There is work that needs to be done to them before making the trip

I am going to be in unit 62. I still don't know what the rules are for that area.

I plan on purchasing an ATV this week or next so I am gathering the info I need before doing so.

Thanks for the help.

You will need the permit as BP said. Never heard of "size restrictions",. BTW all long guns have to be cased and empty as well.

Some areas are by foot or horseback only, no motorized vehicles and usually marked as such.

Here's a link. Parks and wildlife issues the OHV permits.
