I have seen 2 or 3 similar vids of guys in tree stands where the bear climbs to inspect them, but most stop the bear before it gets to head level. Good video. Stupid-lucky hunter.

I wouldn't have fired when he came to the base of the tree, but I sure would not have just sat there as we came eyeball to eyeball. I also think it's amazing who fast the bear scaled that tree!

That's a very immature black bear - more like a lab than a bear for the most part. Just curious to see what was going on and really provided almost no actual danger. A loud yell would have likely sent him running for the hills.

Bears are cool creatures. Glad to see they are making a comeback in old habitat areas.

As the joke goes....

"you reach into the back of your pants and grab a hunk of crap and smear it in their face and they will leave you alone.."

"how do you know it will be there?"

"Oh....it'll be there.."

Easy call after the event. The danger is very real, though the likelihood of an attack in that situation may be low.

I have an uncle that was hunting in Canada a few years ago and had one climb up a tree to his stand. He shot it in the head when it got to his stand

The danger is only very real if you do something stupid and create danger. Black bears are pretty benign to begin with, more so when they are juvenile like that. You have to try pretty hard in all reality to get in a position with a young one like that where danger and injury is the result.

I like the way the bear makes a couple of sheepish glances at him before backing down the tree. It's as if he was thinking "Oh, sorry, I didn't know this tree was occupied, I'll just be leaving now".

I would not have let him get to a face to face level with me. He would have gotten shot with either a sidearm or an arrow.

I don't think I could have resisted scratching his nose.
