Urban Deer... - 11/20/14 12:18 AM
Seems we always hear stories about the huge buck that lives in the thicket behind the neighborhood or alongside some shopping center or deer that live in the city limits. Have any of you participated in the hunts put on by some towns to handle deer populations or hunted deer in the stand of trees on the edge of your neighborhood? Seems the best deer I've seen killed the last two years have basically been in town in people's back yards. Think I'm gonna just start putting in for the city hunts in the towns that offer em.

I could hunt with a knife, if I worked it right I could probably lead one right into the shop building, but I have no desire to see the inside of the Lincoln County jail.

Big bucks here on NE side of Lake Grapevine corps property. Too bad they only allow bow hunting over by Denton Creek area on the west side. Saw a really nice 8 last week with a doe. Every bit of 18 inches wide and tall tines.

I almost went to jail while playing that stupid game called golf a couple years ago. If I could of hit him with a club I'd been done hunting whitetails bet he would of netted 180-185 as a typical

You guys are mistaken. There aren't any deer around grapevine. None. Move on along now.

You are right., just coyotes, turkey, bobs and the occasional lion. No deer here.

Saw an absolute toad about 6 Thanksgivings ago across from Cowboys driving range off Fairway Drive, Gaylord side of road. He looked to be trailing a doe trotting the treeline. Was able to "meeh him to a standstill", looked to be 10-12 pts., really good mass, width and length. Rough guess on score would have been 140 or so..

My soon and I were at the shooting range in Conroe a couple of years ago, and the range officer called "cease fire" after just a couple of minutes of shooting. A doe and fawn cane out of the woods and walked completely across the shooting range right in front of the 100 yard targets. We all just sat there and watched them cross. The doe and fawn got to the other side, and then trotted through the field, across the road, and back into the woods.
I was staying at a motel in Georgetown a few years back, and stood on the balcony watching six deer grazing right at the edge of the parking lot. I went downstairs to see if I could get a better look and when I walked around the corner, I spooked a six point buck right outside the office. I don't know which of us jumped higher. The motel manager told me the deer came out almost every night. Too bad I didn't have my bow along....

Take a drive through Pecan Plantation in Granbury sometime. I lived there for 15 years and the biggest buck I have ever seen on the hoof almost T-boned my truck in hot pursuit of a doe. 180" 200lb bruiser living on pecans.

I used to live right over behind Trophy Club, between TC and the lake. Good GAWD those (-----) were friggin huge! Every morning I'd leave for work anywhere from 4-7 am and they'd be out on the soccer fields. Some of the best looking bucks I've ever seen. Dang they were just huge!

Right before the turnoff to Fairway Dr. from 121 Business (South side behind the chain link fence) there is a about a 6" diameter hardwood that his getting rubbed raw. I've been looking at it every day for the past week or two and it looks to be getting worked over about 4 foot up every day. There is also a loan mesquite sapling nearly across from the turnoff into Cowboys golf club on Fairway Dr. that is getting rubbed up daily. Pretty neat to see.
That's where I lost $20 in golf balls

Around 1990, there was a small herd that lived in the woods on the South entry to DFW airport, remember the news covered a wreck that involved a big 10 point and a truck. Don't know if deer are still in those woods, but wouldnt doubt it. I have seen the does there, never a buck.

Government snipers out at DFW now to handle the deer herd.

Certainly no 195" monsters hiding in there.

Sure would be nice if it were legal in my area, but I still like looking at them.

It's an absolute monster. I'd guess upper 150s?

Hard to say in velvet but I can see breaking 60.
I'd be in jail

To put it in context, look at the buck next to it without having the 8 in the frame. It's way outside the ears and a pretty decent buck in its own right.
Than scroll to the left.
GAWD.

I came very close to hitting a doe a few weeks ago on 174 between Burleson and Joshua. I was pretty surprised to see one there.

There are deer along White rock lake and WR creek in Dallas. Also about a mile from Downtown near "Great Trinity forest"... They're everywhwere there is suitable habitat, and even where it's not suitable.

In the 80's, I saw deer along that stretch all the time, actually there where quite a few in that area, then all the houses and develpment started...That wa back when they only had 1 flashing light in Joshua LOL

I work at the hotel right next to cowboys golf club and there are some monster bucks out here. Always wondered if the company I work for would let me bow hunt the 40 acres next to us if it was legal.
