560 lb Bear- Pic heavy

560 lb Bear- Pic heavy - 11/13/14 06:50 PM

We shot this bear still hunting Monday afternoon. My daughter was walking on air. It took 5 of us to load him. We worked most of the night skinning him out and cutting him up. It is our biggest bear so far. I don’t know of to many 11 year old girls that would have lay down beside the bear in the middle of the night so dad could take a picture. It is hard to realize just how big he is without seeing him

Yes he was killed in Eastern Nc.and yes you can eat it. It is a darker and stringer meat. Makes real good hamburger.

My dad grew up on a farm in Pinetown, NC in Beaufort county. He said growing up they used to kill and eat about one bear a year but they probably killed more than that. I heard my grandfather had a run in with the local game warden about putting out traps for bears. There are big bears in Beaufort county.

I hope for the day when they successfully return to Texas, and hope there are places still wild enough for them to prosper here.

Congratulations to you that bear looks huge.

Wow! That's one heck of a black bear! Congrats!

Just curious, how much meat do you get off that?

Re: 560 lb Bear- Pic heavy - 11/16/14 04:53 PM

We got close to 150 lbs of boneless meat. In places the fat was over 4 inches thick. I love to deer hunt but bear hunting is a whole different ball game. You really get to thinking when it comes down to do something.

What a bear. I didn't really know much about the quality of bear hunting in NC, but I have seen several pictures of some huge bears taken in NC this year. Congrats.
