Your favorite hunting-related quote - 11/06/14 07:27 PM

I saw this one at a craft show...

"Deer tremble at the sound of my name."

Another one often repeated by those still recovering from a severe case of Buck Fever...

"All I could see wuz horns!"

And an honorable mention, sometimes used to cover a missed opportunity...

"Who, me? Must have been that guy down the pipeline that shot."

Re: Your favorite hunting-related quote - 11/06/14 09:18 PM

Was up in Arkansas standing in line at the convenience store getting some scooby snacks for the hunt. There were a group of guys in line ahead of us. There was a man and his son and ahead of them were a couple of older men.

One of the older guys turns around and asks the kid, "So, is this your first duck hunt?"

The kid replies "Yes sir"

Then older guy says to him, "Well, we'll kill some ducks today if we see some"

Line has stuck with me for almost 20 years, still say it before almost every hunt.

Here's a few I've heard spoken through the years...

"Didn't cut a hair."

"Don't ask."

"Daddy sure has a good set of lungs." Spoken by a man's son who thought he was yelling at hunting hounds, when in reality, he was lost and hoping someone would yell back.

"That deer left the country running."

"All I saw was a squirrel and he was lost."

"I believe I left most of my butt back there on that stump."

Something I learned during all my years chasing behind hounds that you never want to say...

"Just one more quick one." Chances are it'll turn into a six-hour race and end right before daylight.

My grandpop's Indian Guide's comments from his last Carabou hunt in Alaska, in his late 70's, crippled up & draggin one leg and shufflin' along on a stout hickory cane with the other from being run over by a Fire Truck inside his Station House some 30 years earlier...when his bad vision finally failed his aim for the first time in his life...
One Shot Meat!! Two shot's Maybe??...but Three Shot's NOOO Meat.
He never hunted again, and the only time I ever saw tears from him over anything he'd done.
