I lost a "ridgerunner" red coon pelt and a piebald doe hide to a broken freezer over 10 yrs ago and it still makes my guts turn when i think about it. Just something to think about guys. Get them hides in!

Re: north texas tannery - 10/16/12 03:59 PM

They do very good work, I'll give them a two-thumbs up. I have had about 7 or 8 hides done this year, and have another 2 or 3 over there right now - which reminds me I need to call to see if they are ready. smile

They do a LOT of hides, so they get backed up and there is commonly a 4-6 month wait. But at thier prices, I can live with that no problem.

You did an Eland about 5 years ago for me, he still looks great. Now you have my bear.

Re: north texas tannery - 10/17/12 12:51 PM

Don't know on the price. Call him. The skin depends of coarse on freezer burn. That depends on the freezer and what the hide was put in. I once had a blackbuck in a freezer for a year and it turned out fine.

Good prices, but I guess my axis hide was the exception. Very stiff and smelled of Alum for a year, plus hair loss. Had the hide to the tannery within 3 days of kill, frozen. Maybe I did something wrong. Certainly give them another shot though.
