Shredding
Anybody have Shredding contacts for Sterling County? or San Angelo? I could also rent one out of San Angelo?
What is an hourly or going rate for this?
you still wanting to shred that mesquite?
Yep, Just want to be able to drive around the place and for visibility. I know it will come back , but we cant afford to sink alot of money in it because of the chance of losing it. I figure if I can get it knocked down every couple years we'll be good.

Shredding Mesquite? How big of mesquite are you talking about here?
Its shreddable, weve done it before with an old tractor. Its probably up to 1" give or take

That sounds like flat tires waiting to happen IMO
Not worried about the flats. Right now after our little forest fire it is thick. My main concern is visibility and being able to drive a jeep or 4 wheeler through a few places.

may could rent a bobcat for a weekend and knock out a lot of that.
Will the bucket rip them up with ease? We have access to a bobcat , its just a long heavy haul.

Oh yeah. MUCH easier if you have a gubber to replace the bucket though. If I were in your shoes, it would be a great investment to buy one, better yet, If somebody on your lease can weld make one. Extremly easy

if they are the size you said then it should have no problem. You are right on them being a hvy haul.

Getting back to the original question, what is about the going rate for having it shredded, if there is such a thing?

I hunted a place between Cotulla and Laredo a few times where they shredded the edges of the senderos. I stopped in Cotulla and had goop put in all four tires. After I got home (3 days of hunting), I started counting broken off Mesquite thorns in one of my tires. I wasn't even halfway around and lost count at 120-something.

we started trying to deal with cedars on our place. We first tried a 4wd tractor (100+ HP). That only worked for smaller ones. We then tried a dozer. It works great for pushing them, but leaves holes, which is fine except for places you don't want to start erosion problems. What we've found to be best is a solid tire Bobcat with a shear on the front. If you clip them below the first branches, you have that particular cedar killed.
Those roots are STRONG and if the soil is dry or rocky, they are impossible to push over without a tracked vehicle when they get to be pretty big.
http://www.sportsmansonestop.com/We use this guy. He has done a wide variety of things for us and mainly just clearing mesquite trees. He is located in Anson and I think the going rate is $75 an hour but I'm not positive.

Solid tire skid steer? Damn those things will rattle your teeth out of your mouth
I still recommend spraying but if you must.
Call Leonardo (325)365-6965
Whats Leonardos last name? Does he do strictly mowing pretty much? I think I met him

When it's this hot spray them with straight diesel. Just be ready to load up on the slime when the thorns get hard.
If they've been mowed before, there's probably 3 times as much roots under the ground as there are branches above. I've pulled up some sucker roots with my tractor that were 10 feet long and still green from stumps that were dead over a year.

I don't know how much you have to do, but for enough work I would come from Sheffield and do it for $75/hr plus move in and move out mileage. I have a grubber and a shear, also tracks on my skid steer.

I feel sorry for who ever has the place in 5-10 years. If just one time those mesquites get up too big to shred, someone will have a grand time trying to kill em' with the root systems they will have built.

I'm not sure where your located but our company offers both of those services, and even if your not near us this might give you a reference as to pricing. Do not go with an hourly shredding company, an honest company will only charge accourding to the wieght. We come out to your house/ home office with one of our trucks, but we do require a $100 min order which comes out to 500 pounds of paper. The other option we offer is if you come to one of our reginal offices (please call ahead to see that a shredding specialist is available) and bring your paper you will be charges $7 per bankers size box or $.18 per pound. Check out our web site.

Can you get a mesquite stump through a paper shredder???
Back on topic the green slime I have used in the past has caused extreme rust on the wheel.
Foam filled tires is the way to go.
Shredding mesquite as you know is a temporary fix. Sounds like this is a lease.....wonder if the land owner would pay to have a few areas grubbed?

Man I would dozer it and then do a little spraying with Remedy and Diesel every year to keep them from coming back. That's what I do and it works great.
Men this is our specialty !!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been in the brush business of close to 20 years. There is so many opinions out there on what is right an wrong. We tackle brush every day, 7 days a week. There is so many factors that dictate how you get to your goals on brush control. I have gotten the prices down to where we are hard to beat, not to mention our reputation to boot. We have every kind of equipment needed to make a ranch very usable in any situation.
Brother in law, what exactly are you trying to accomplish?
