IS there anything special I need to do when preparing a antelope skull plate? It seems like there is a fleshy material under the horns sheath. thanks

First drill a small hole about a number 40 drill bit on the back side of the sheaths about an inch from the bottom be sure to drill into the bone beneath. Boil or steam them for a bit. Occasionally pull them out, step on the skull plate and twist and pull the sheaths off. Now remove all the cartilage from the skull cap. Fill the sheaths with borax and let them dry for about a week. Now put just a little bit of bondo or something similar in the sheaths and place them back in the skull plate. Using a tooth pick align up the holes for correct placements being sure to pull it out before it kicks hard. And your done

Thanks ill try this out. So the sheath should not be in the water? Ill steam theses outside on the propane so the wife doesn't get upset lol. Hopefully this will still work. The skull plate and bottom portion of horns have been in borax since I shot it Thanksgiving day.

Submerge the whole thing, no discoloring will occur with the sheaths of speed goats
