I'm guilty of salting before tasting a lot of times. But I don't think I have ever salted something I ate and said ooh that's salty.
If its home cooking or my cooking then usually I taste first.

Depends on what it is and the occasion. If it's my baked potato, I know it's gonna need salt. If it's a nice meal someone else has made, then I will usually taste first and salt later. Some people get way bent out of shape if you dare to do such a thing. They will even go so far as to not hire a person if they salt first. Pretty stupid if you ask me

Seems as if I posted this on the wrong forum. Doesn't matter. There's an old antidote about Henry Ford who would take a prospective hire to lunch. It went on that Henry would reject him if he salted his food before he tasted it.

Taste first.
I don't like my food overly salty.
Now black pepper, that's another story.
I'm guilty of adding pepper before tasting if it looks like it needs some more.

Taste first, salt if needed.
Most food needs salt but too much and it's ruined.
And yes you can tell by looking if black pepper is needed
and the answer is yes.

No such thing as over seasoning in my book. Salt, pepper, anything. The more flavor the better.

I have several places I eat at regularly, for instance I have never eaten a Whataburger that I didn't think needed some salt and pepper, so when I eat a Whataburger, without tasting it I put 1/2 a packet of salt and 2 packets of pepper on it. Same goes for pretty much any hamburger, most places do not season burger patties.

Not tasting first before adding salt and pepper is considered an insult to the chef in some places.

Taste first always for salt. Pepper I can see if it needs more or not.
I agree with not hiring someone that salts without tasting, shows that they will make changes to things without even knowing if something needs changed and they will make decisions without getting facts.

I always taste first, then salt if needed. I seldom need to salt. I do always salt french fries and tater tots because they always need salt.
