Aluminum Pan

Aluminum Pan - 01/18/17 11:35 PM

Had a buddy over not so long ago and he laughed at my aluminum baking pan. My ex also thought it is strange. I have been cooking for myself since I was as a sophomore in HS. Not that I love to cook, but I'm cheap and also like being creative. I also like my food...my way! So anyway I was baking up some leftover chicken quarters to make sandwiches with. Made my usual "baking pan" and got me to thinking...am I the only one that does this? I take a piece of aluminum foil and origami my own baking pan. Of course it needs to be supported by the bigger pan, but once I'm done, no clean up!

It's cooking bags for me. There is no cleanup.

Ok so I'm not the only one! Thanks skinnerback! And yes, I guess it is old school...not too me though. And Bill I've tried the bags, but again I'm cheap!

Urban you using heavy duty or regular foil? That is a nifty idea that I have never thought of.

The cheap stuff! It ends up in the trash at the end anyway. When supported by the bigger (did not get dirty) non-disposable pan the small thickness difference in the AL don't mean much. The trick is how to fold it up when done without spilling any grease. I kinda grab both ends and fold it inward while supporting the center of it. I have spilled several times, but after 30 years+ doing it this way you get the hang of it. It also works well on the BBQ when doing veggies and such.

The trick is to make a fold at each side of the flat aluminum (about an inch a half up) then once that is done the corners kinda fold themselves as you form the pan shape.

Re: Aluminum Pan - 01/19/17 03:17 PM

I do the same and depending on what I'm cooking I may not even use a pan underneath.

Depends on what I am cooking, but usually only do it when I know it will make the pan difficult to clean, the invention of PAM is the best thing ever.

Been doing that for years, especially on things that make a big mess to cleanup in the pan. For some things I will go with the baking bags but use that for roasts not just baking chicken and such.

cheers

I didn't know there was another way. I was taught that when I was a kid.

Re: Aluminum Pan - 01/22/17 12:58 AM

the MESS comes, when you cut up the chicken

baking is great but after you cut into it... BOOM, it goes everywhere

Mess any way...

cooking bags, you get NO browning which makes any meat taste like old people pureed food

Re: Aluminum Pan - 01/23/17 07:41 PM

Thanks guys!! Seems like there are many others that do this. I thought so...it only makes sense. I guess that's why I though it was weird that my buddy and ex would think it was weird...when in fact they are the weird ones! Now I can rub it in my ex's face!!...I may even slap her while I'm at it!!

(Just kidding about the slapping part...LOL!)
