Is it still good? - 12/01/16 12:55 AM
As I was looking in my freezer for something to cook I noticed a batch of chili that I made back in January-ish. I opened it up and there is no freezer burn. My question is do you think it is still good to eat or not?

It's still good. I had some last week. I refroze it again. You might have to add a little water.

Same here...make a large pot then freeze future meals...thaw, heat, and eat!

yep, we had a breaker blow that our freezer was connected to about 2 years ago. Everything was still cold and/or partially frozen. We cooked about 30 lbs of venison hamburger meat, separated it out into about 2 lb packages and vacuumed sealed. Made for a simple meal for many months to just thaw it out and add to whatever we were making (spaghetti, casserole, etc.).

Heck since it is chili it will probably test better since it has had a year to age.

I've had wild game in the freezer almost 2 years vacuum sealed and some just in butcher paper. Stuff was perfectly fine.
If you're worried about it just put tons of hot sauce on it and you will be cleaned out no matter what. So with your grumbling stomach pains just blame it all on the hot sauce.

I usually freeze a tub of chili, gumbo, etc for an easy grab and go meal to take to the ranch. Same with smoked meats, just pulled 4 pounds of brisket from 4th of July party out of freezer and made brisket tacos and burritos. Then froze the ones we didn't eat.
