Is it hard to make?
Is it worth the investment?
Is it too late in the year to make?
Should I add beans...

no
no (unless you have frozen peaches to add)
no
absolutely no!
I never was overly fond of homemade ice cream other than peach. It didn't really matter who's recipe was used, maybe it was a texture thing as I really like the smooth creaminess of store bought ... maybe there is a different recipe that comes out closer to store bought though.

Cantaloupe homemade ice cream is awesome. One of family members always makes this for 4th of July at the lake. It's awesome!

Blue bell over homemade any day, but the fam likes the tradition a couple times throughout the summer..
Homemade strawberry
2 cans of eagle brand milk, add frozen sweetened strawberries to your liking (about a cup or half a tub for me), fill to the brim with big red.. in the ice cream maker 20-30 min or until it looks well mixed and smooth.. toss in the freezer for another 30-1hr to get the right texture.. it can turn out just as smooth as store bought..
Ice Cream is never out of season!

I love homemade ice cream. Use my great grandmothers recipe. It is different than store bought ice cream and vanilla or banana are really the only two I have had that I care fore, and plane jane vanilla is still my favorite.

When I was a kid my grandmother would put the ice cream fixings in a one-pound cofee can. She'd tape that up and stick it inside a 3 pound coffee can and fill it with ice and rock salt, and tape that closed. We'd play with it for a few hours and presto...ice cream.

Chocolate peanut butter or red hot. Better than anything you can get at the store.
