Freezing/Defrosting meat

Freezing/Defrosting meat - 12/09/15 03:46 PM

Am I able to freeze venison and defrost it at a later date to grind into burger and then refreeze again? I'm thinking about beginning to process my own deer but wonder if I don't have the time to work on the meat the week after. What does everyone do?

I have several times. It's easier to cut and grind when it is still partially frozen. I'd freeze it for awhile even if I wanted to process it today.

yep, we used a large porcelain wash basin type pan, put all of our trimmings in it, put in freezer, repeat until we got the tub full enough for a grind session (usually about 20-25 lbs). It does seem to grind better partially frozen.

Nothing wrong with it. Mine is in the freezer waiting to be processed. Then will be back in the freezer when I'm done.
