Advice on processor

Advice on processor - 07/20/15 12:38 PM

I am about to cull out a few axis in mason and live in round rock. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good processor anywhere close to highway 29 between the two spots? I usually do my own butchering but will not have time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for basic cuts and some sausage.

Miiller's in Llano is about the only one I can think of right off of 29. Shannon's in Cherokee is really good, just have drive north 20 minutes up hwy 16.

Thanks, I was planning on checking out millers this is week. I will look into Shannon's as well. I don't mind driving a bit extra for quality

Bill, advice like that is why I do my own butchering normally. I have heard stories. But yeah, these would be quarters only. I can pack my own tenderloins and back straps. Are you speaking from previous experience or just making a statement? Just curious

The tenderloins seem to disappear when you have them processed. I've always pulled mine out before quartering them.

Millers in Llano is a good place. Get some armadillo eggs while your there.

You should consider Hudson's on South Congress being you are so close in Round Rock. They can do more with meat than most. Not so close to 29 though... Have heard good about Miller's and Shannon's as well.

Brizendine's in Bertram next door to the post office 1 block south of hwy 29 on FM 243 but might call ahead of time to insure they are open. They have processed about 98% of all my deer for the past 13+ years, always get good products and my own meat back, vacuum sealed. Good variety of sausage including dried in a variety of heat/seasoning ranges. I have known both Darryl and Becky since HS. (512) 470-2897 ... don't think they take quartered FWIW, at least not during deer season.

Griffin Taxidermy on the west side of Burnet, south side of hwy 29 at the top of the hill before dropping off into town. They have very good products but pricey the last time I used them about 2002. not sure if they process during the off season.

also there is the place up US 183 about 4 miles north of Seward Junction (drawing a blank on the name), very good product but quite pricey. Hunter's Creek I believe??? have used them a couple of times when taking a deer around Briggs and didn't want to drive over to Bertram, also used for a hog earlier this year.

Great info! PMK I drive past pretty much every place you have mentioned and wondered how they all were. Thank you for the input. I am driving up tomorrow to fill feeders so I may take my time coming home and visit these places. You can learn so much mor face to face rather than on the phone. Thanks again man!

my preference is Brizendine's!!! ... I am just not sure how active they are during the off season. definitely give them a call beforehand.

there is also P&R processing in Watson (between Briggs and Lampasas on US 183) that makes some of the best summer sausage I have ever had. I used them a couple years back on a suggestion from my BIL on my way back late night from the panhandle. Called as I was passing thru Lampasas and Paul opened the gate and took my deer about 11:00 pm.

just a few options that I find trustworthy in the general area you will be. spoken from personal experience.
