Baked beans

Baked beans - 01/27/15 10:47 PM

I'm now watching Trisha's southern cooking. She started by sautéed bacon. Some jock is cutting up onions. I start with bushes baked beans with onions, and end up with topping mine with bacon. I put most of the common stuff in there, plus a little cayenne. I bake them until the jell up a little. How do you make your baked beans?.

usually start off with Van Camps pork n beans in a 2 quart pot, a little Worcestershire, finely chopped onion, crumbled bacon (and a little grease from cooking bacon), yellow mustard, black pepper, a little ketchup and a little brown sugar ... combine all and let simmer till onions get tender. Wife does similar but without ketchup.

Several people use yellow mustard. I never have. I'm doing a boneless pork loin tonight with baked beans and coleslaw. I think I'll add a squeeze of mustard.

Bill, this is what my mom has always done, and I do it now too. Love these additions to the Bush's baked beans.

Fry bacon very crisp, drain and crumble.
Cook ground beef with chopped onion, salt and pepper.
Dissolve beef bouillon cube in small amount of water.
Fill pot/pan/container almost full with Bush’s Best Original Baked Beans (depending on how much you want to make).
Add crumbled bacon, ground beef with onion, beef bouillon, celery salt, garlic salt, pepper, yellow mustard, and some ketchup to taste.

I guess on quantities and it always tastes the same to me.

I've made them from scratch using pork and beans since childhood, but recently I made a mighty fine pot by mixing 4 or 5 kinds of Bush's baked beans and touching up the taste just a bit, then adding strips of bacon to cover the top. Oven bake at 350 until the beans bubble and the bacon is cooked. I got lotsa compliments on that batch, but Baptists will eat anything...

Mine turned out great. I found a bottle of honey mustard in the frig, and put a little squeeze of that in there.

Take 3-4 strips of Wright's Thick-Sliced Hickory Smoked bacon. Cut in 1" pieces and cook in skillet until done. Chop one small to medium white onion, sauté until clear in a small amount of the bacon grease. Take two 28oz cans of Bush's Beans, usually Original, Country, or Homestyle, pour into large bowl and mix in onion and bacon. Put in 10x15 baking dish and sprinkle the top with 1/4 to 1/2 cup of brown sugar. Bake at 350 until bubbly and gelled. Eat!

Was at Costco this morning and my wife picked up an 8 pack of Bush Baked Beans. Looks like chicken quarters on the Traeger and Baked beans for dinner.

4 16oz cans drained
1/2 yellow onion and 4 slices bacon both diced and sauted for 10-15 minutes
mix with beans
add 2-3 capfuls each of apple cider vinegar and white vinegar
couple heavy dashes worchestershire sauce
Tbls mustard
Tbls ketchup
dash of soy sauce
1 cup brown suger
Mix will and top with a couple slices bacon
hot water just to cover
cover foiled 300 degrees for 2-3 hours
remove foil 350 degrees until desired consistency

Like you, I use Bush's baked beans, drained. I saute diced bacon, yellow onion, green bell pepper, and garlic, in a pot. I add Stubbs originl BB sauce, a little catsup, moleasses, and Woody's Cook-In sauce to taste. If you haven't tried Woody's in your BBQ, you're missing it. I let it reduce to "just right" and serve. I don't measure anything. I get "Best I ever had" ratings from family and friends.
