What is your technique for a grilled cheese sandwich?

Mine is simple. Melt a spoonfull of real butter (like the kind you get from the Amish) and put a slice of Mrs Barids in it, add a slice of sliced cheddar and then another slice of bread. Turn when needed to brown the other side.

Basically the same as LoneStar's, but I put a dollop of real Hellman's mayo on top of the cheddar. Used to work for a feller whose wife made the best dang grilled cheeses and she finally told me the trick. Try it- it's awesome!

One piece of bread, one slice of cheese, a large tomato slice, topped with salt and lots of black pepper. Stick it in the toaster oven until the cheese bubbles and the bread starts to brown. Ya'll can thank me with donations of Natty Light or Ice...

Buttered Texas Toast with Havarti, Munster, American Blue Cheese, and a few strips or Wrights bacon extra crispy. Cook it on a Cuisinart Grill with the flat plates until golden brown and melted. Goes great with a good dark beer.

Sun Beam (giant) bread, cheap American cheese slices (2)
toast bread, put both pieces of cheese on one piece of toast and put plenty of garlic salt on it and pop that in the microwave of 20 sec.
slather the other piece of toast with Miricle Whip
slap um together and enjoy!

Layer mozzarella in an even layer over one slice of bread followed by an even layer of sliced tomatoes.
Sprinkle basil ribbons over top and season with ground black pepper to taste, then cover with remaining slice of bread. Drizzle 1 tsp olive oil in a non-stick skillet, heat over medium-low heat and tilt back and forth to evenly coat (heat the oil long enough for it to glide easily across the pan but don't heat it to smoking point before adding sandwich or it the bread will toast before the cheese has a chance to melt. If using butter, spread 1/2 tbsp butter on both top and bottom of sandwich and heat skillet over medium heat), add sandwich, cover with lid and cook until sandwich is golden brown on bottom, about 2 minutes. Then lift sandwich out of skillet and drizzle remaining 1 tsp olive oil into skillet, tilt pan back and forth to evenly coat. Carefully flip sandwich to opposite side then return to skillet, cover with lid and continue to cook until bottom side is golden brown and cheese is melted through. Remove from skillet and lightly brush garlic clove along toasted sides of bread. Serve immediately.

Call me simple, but one of my favorites is still 2 slices of white bread, a good toaster, a slice of Kraft singles, and a sense of urgency. If you move quick enough and put the cheese between the toast immmediately from the toaster, then there's enough heat to melt the cheese.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE cheese and fancy grilled cheese snadwiches. But the classic cheez samich will always have a place in my heart/belly.

That's a fine looking sandwich! I like wheat bread, mayo, and sharp cheddar cheese cooked in real butter.

butter two slices of bread. Lay one slice (butter side down) on a heated griddle. Two slices of american cheese on the bread. 2nd slice of bread on top - butter side up. Turn when brown and done when the 2nd piece of bread is brown.

Lay both slices flat and put a slice on each slice. When you can't pick up the corner of the cheese they are ready to put together. Slice it and eat it!

Two slices whole wheat on buttered griddle.
When toasted, flip & add 2 slices Kraft cheese & 2 or 3 strips of bacon (which you cooked before you started) and make a sandwich with the untoasted sides out.
Add a little butter to griddle and cook each side of the sandwich until toasted.
If you're in a hurry, omit the bacon. But who is ever in that much of a hurry?
