Best Burger in Texas - 11/29/15 08:18 PM

I'm craving a big ol cheeseburger right now. So, who sells the best one in Texas?

I say Lucy's Big Burger - Abilene.

I'll have to check out Lucy's next time I'm in Abilene. Never heard of it.

Ronnies in Wichita Falls is good. So is Giant Burger in Rhome.
A flat top grill is a must.

My patio. I don't eat many burgers out, because I like to cook them at home. However, I got a Jumbo Jack with cheese on my way home from the hunt Thursday. It was as good as any store bought I've ever had.

Rodeo goat in FW is good for those "specialty" burgers.
The one with chorizo is good.

Lucys was bad when it was in Tuscola, I dont imagine it got any better when it moved to Abilene. His ice cream is good though

Re: Best Burger in Texas - 11/29/15 10:36 PM

Best burger I have ever eaten was a place here in town. A guy made a hamburger stand out of a popup camper. It was awesome and cheap. One of those burgers that the grease runs down your arm while you eat it. Sadly he closed down after I joined the army. Double R in Waco is good. Cupp's Cafe on Speight St in Waco is supposed to have the best burger in town, I don't know from experience, but alot of people have told me.

Re: Best Burger in Texas - 11/30/15 12:44 AM

It all depends on the tastes of the person and the cook of the day. I like Whataburger, but one place to the next can be a big difference. I also like 3 local joints, but just because they were great today, doesn't mean they won't be just average tomorrow. The chains do have more consistency in the quality, but it can vary from place to place and really be a big difference in town to town.

Fresh ground beef seasoned well, grilled or flat-top fried.
Fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles and onion.
Fresh bun.

There are so many places with a great burger within 10 miles of home
I can't imagine driving much further on any recommendation.

And I LOVE a good burger.

I am at a loss here. Why the disdain for giant burger. Albeit the design is your proverbial meat, cheese, lettuce tomato, and onion, I have liked it when I go. I always get take out, as eating in a gas station doesn't really appeal to me. I have been to many places on this list and Giant burger is close to top five. Ronnie's in WF is probably my favorite.

Re: Best Burger in Texas - 01/07/16 10:20 PM

When I hit Giant Burger per Cast's recomendation it was on a Thursday afternoon adn very crowded, which was a good sign. I got the regualr bacon cheese burger. Meat was over cooked, bread was stale, bacon was tough, but the vegetables were good and fresh tasting. I wont be going back. I will be trying Freedom Fried Burger soon, if it's not good then I'm going to have Csat taken to the doctor for an evaluation loco_too

HAHA. Must have been a bad day I guess. I ate one today as a matter of fact. No bacon...cheese +grilled jalepenos...spot on. Elbow dripping good I tell ya. They are beginning to get carried away with the prices though...$11 for a burger and tots.....

You talking about Dairy-ette at Ferguson and Oates? They have great shakes and malts, but I think Kellers has a better burger. Dairy-ette used to be very particular about the meat they bought, saying it had to have just the right fat content or it would be rejected. After the founder passed away, so did his vision for a tasty burger.

I've seen a few of these mentioned but here are a couple of mine: Storms-Burnet & Lampasas; Juicy's-Marshall; Ranch House Cafe-Canyon (great breakfast too).

That's the one. Maybe my memories are somewhat nostalgic, but I still find them better that a lot of other places.

$15 is pretty high for a burger.

Re: Best Burger in Texas - 02/29/16 11:33 PM

I'm in the Waco area and torn between a double double from Cupp's, a Lip Locker from Kitok's (with Oriental fries and sweet tea), a Super Health Burger from Health Camp (anything but healthy) or just a cheeseburger from Golinda Store. These pretty much all require rolled up sleeves and elbow coasters.

Edited to add: Pena's Country Store, in Rosenthol, won best burger in the county a few years, but I think their grill is closed, and Golinda Store is in a shut down has station just across the Falls County line on 77.

Alamo Springs Cafe. It is located outside of Fredricksburg out in the middle of nowhere. Only serve burgers & fries & onion rings with lotsa cold beer. Always crowded & always good!
