Spanish Angels diner in Dell City, Tx. Went to hunt New Mexico Unit 30 a couple years ago and stayed just across the Texas border side in Dell City for the hunt. Found this little Mexican café while we were there and ended up eating there 3 or 4 times that week. Breakfast and dinner. Marta (very broken English) was the owner/operator. Best Mexican food I've ever eaten in my life. Bold statement but it's true. And I practically live on Mexican food. Shame it's located where it is because unless you are buying alfalfa hay, working the oilfields, or hunting, you'll never have a reason to go to Dell City, Tx. If you're within an hour of there it's worth making the effort to go.

Buffalo Joe's in La Vernia; they make the best buffalo burgers and gourmet sandwiches I've ever eaten. And, they make great homemade chips too as a side (I get burnt out on French Fries after a while at other places, so it's a nice change). They a pretty small place...in fact, their restroom isn't even inside the restaurant; you have to go outside into a little side shack if you need to "go". When the restaurant is so small you gotta go outside to pee, that's the hallmark of a true "hole in the wall"! chef

Chicken Fried steak was tough as shoe leather with very little flavor, fried squash was tasteless, beans were average, they were out of Mash Potato's hammer

The only thing that was good was the cream gravy and the toast!
